Their best known tunes include "Our Lips Our Sealed", "Vacation", and "We Got The Beat" among others. Their trend-setting debut album, 'Beauty and the Beat', didn't just reach #1 after its 1981 release but is also considered one of the cornerstone albums of American new wave. In the beginning, they played primarily what was known as 'pop punk', and they then made their sound more sunny and romantic, having later associated themselves with the distinct sound of 80s pop rock. The Go-Go's had five Top 40 hits in their heyday.

In addition, there was a group from Newcastle in the U.K. known as "The Go-Go's" in the 60s. That artist is known for their 1964 novelty Christmas single, titled "I'm Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek", which referenced the budding 'Doctor Who' craze. Like the later U.S. band of the same name, the group's name was a reference to go-go dancing.

I've nearly lost all track of time
In every direction
I couldn't see the warning signs
I must be losin' it
'Cause my mind plays tricks on me
It looked so easy
But you know looks sometimes deceive
Been running so fast
Right from the starting line
No more connections
I don't need any more advice
One hand's just reaching out
And one's just hangin' on
It seems my weaknesses
Just keep going strong
Head over heels, where should I go?
Can't stop myself, out of control
Head over heels, no time to think
Looks like the whole world's out of sync
Been running so hard
When what I need is to unwind
The voice of reason
Is one I left so far behind
I've waited so long
So long to play this part
And just remembered
That I'd forgotten about my heart
Head over heels, where should I go?
Can't stop myself, out of control
Head over heels, no time to think
Looks like the whole world's out of sync
Head over heels, where should I go?
Can't stop myself, out of control
Head over heels, no time to think
Looks like the whole world's out of sync
Head over heels, where should I go?
Can't stop myself, out of control
Head over heels, no time to think
Looks like the whole world's out of sync
Head over heels, where should I go?
Can't stop myself, out of control
Head over heels, no time to think
Looks like the whole world's out of sync
The lyrics to The Go-Go's's Head Over Heels reflect the feeling of being lost, confused and out of control. The first verse talks about losing track of time and not being able to see warning signs. This creates a feeling of disorientation and vulnerability. The second verse talks about running away from connections and advice, which highlights a sense of not wanting to hear from anyone else. The lyrics then go on to talk about wanting to relax and unwind, but being unable to do so due to being too caught up in one's own thoughts and feelings.
The chorus, 'Head over heels, where should I go? Can't stop myself, out of control, Head over heels, no time to think, Looks like the whole world's out of sync' captures the sense of being overwhelmed and not knowing what to do. The repetition of the chorus highlights the feeling of being stuck in a cycle of confusion and frustration.
In the third verse, the lyrics reveal that the singer has been waiting a long time to play a certain part, but has forgotten about their heart. This line adds another layer of complexity to the song, suggesting that the singer has been focused on external pressures and expectations and has lost touch with their own desires and emotions.
Overall, Head Over Heels is an introspective song that reflects the common human experience of feeling lost and out of control. The lyrics capture the tension between meeting external expectations and staying true to oneself.

I never realized how strong the drums and bass playing is in this group. I didn’t appreciate them enough back in the day. Fantastic group in a fantastic time to be a teenager!

The rhythm section was excellent. These women were musicians first.

I had a roommate in college that was a drummer in a death metal band. He bought the Go-Gos on a whim, basically to make fun of them, and ended up loving the disc because how good they were.
