Their best known tunes include "Our Lips Our Sealed", "Vacation", and "We Got The Beat" among others. Their trend-setting debut album, 'Beauty and the Beat', didn't just reach #1 after its 1981 release but is also considered one of the cornerstone albums of American new wave. In the beginning, they played primarily what was known as 'pop punk', and they then made their sound more sunny and romantic, having later associated themselves with the distinct sound of 80s pop rock. The Go-Go's had five Top 40 hits in their heyday.

In addition, there was a group from Newcastle in the U.K. known as "The Go-Go's" in the 60s. That artist is known for their 1964 novelty Christmas single, titled "I'm Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek", which referenced the budding 'Doctor Who' craze. Like the later U.S. band of the same name, the group's name was a reference to go-go dancing.
Speeding

Each time I get behind the wheel
The rush of blood comes
As the power surges
And my right foot urges
The car to push on through the night
Driving faster
On pretty view and
Feel the speed and
I don't dream of
Driving slow some other time
One thing I'm certain that I know
All I want to do is go go go
Everything is rushing by
My heart is pounding deep inside
Got to match the engine's pace
Win imaginary race - yeah!
Driving faster
Driving past the scenery
On pretty view and
I feel as though I've
Got to control my
Reckless need to speed and speed
And speed
And speed
And speed
And speed...
The Go-Go's's song "Speeding" is a high-energy track that captures the excitement and thrill of driving fast. The lyrics describe the rush of adrenaline that comes with stepping on the gas pedal, and the feeling of power that a powerful engine can provide. Frontwoman Belinda Carlisle sings about the urge to push on through the night, to drive faster than the scenery can pass by, and to win an imaginary race. She even acknowledges the danger of her reckless need for speed but finds it hard to resist.
The lyrics of "Speeding" speak to a common human experience of feeling alive and free on the open road. The song evokes a sense of danger and rebellion that is often associated with youth and rebellion. It is a celebration of speed and adventure, the kind of emotion that people often seek out when they want to escape their everyday lives.
Interestingly, "Speeding" was not one of The Go-Go's's biggest hits. It was released as a single in 1982, but it only reached #55 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, the song remains a fan favorite and a classic example of the band's signature style.
