Their trend-setting debut album, 'Beauty and the Beat', didn't just reach #1 after its 1981 release but is also considered one of the cornerstone albums of American new wave. In the beginning, they played primarily what was known as 'pop punk', and they then made their sound more sunny and romantic, having later associated themselves with the distinct sound of 80s pop rock. In addition, there was a group from Newcastle in the U.K. known as "The Go-Go's" in the 60s. That artist is known for their 1964 novelty Christmas single, titled "I'm Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek", which referenced the budding 'Doctor Who' craze. The 3 tracks they released in '94 rocked. It's a shame they didn't release a full album at that time. 40 years and only 4 albums--they need to make another one!

When I saw them in 2001 on the God Bless The Go-Go's tour they were singing, "Is the whole world giving head / Is it just me?" laughing themselves silly. America's Sweethearts, indeed. FINALLY in the R&RHoF!

I remember when I played this song to a friend of mine. He wasn't a big Go Go's fan. But once I played "The Whole World Lost it's Head" he actually respected them! He is a big fan to this day! Long live THE GO GO'S!!
