My Time
The Golden Dawn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It has been running through my mind
That you're not my kine
But I don't mind
It's just that I'm doing fine
Inside my mind
It's my time

My time, my time, my time

I have known you for quite some time
I haven't seen a sign
You even know the place I live
You can't receive the love I give
But it does't matter anyway
Anyhow, any day now
I'll be leaving here to stay
It's my time

My time, my time, my time

I haven't seen the light shining from your eyes
That signifies
That your disguise
Has not been lifted from your face
You're just the past to me my place
Is not around you and your lace
Is only taking up my space
It's my time

My time, my time, my time

Overall Meaning

The Golden Dawn's song, My Time, appears to be about a person who has come to the realization that the person they are involved with is not meant for them. The lyrics suggest that this realization has been running through the singer's mind for some time, and they have accepted the fact that the person they were involved with is not their kind. Despite this, they are content with the way things are, and they feel it's their time to do what they want.

The singer has known the other person for some time, yet they feel that there hasn't been any sign of reciprocation when it comes to love. They are certain that the other person cannot receive the love they give, and it doesn't matter because the singer is leaving soon anyway. They mention that they have not seen a "light" shining from the person's eyes that signifies that their disguise has been lifted from their face. The singer seems to be detached from the other person and feels that they are simply taking up space in their life, and it's time to move on to new things.

Overall, the song appears to be about the singer's journey towards self-realization, and how they have finally come to terms with the fact that they need to let go of someone who is not for them. They are content with the way things are, and they feel empowered to take control of their life.

A definite highlight of the Power Plant album and one of the greatest garage psych songs to come out of Austin or anywhere else! I just wish they hadn't faded it out early.

George Kinney & Roky Erickson were fellow musicians in South Austin & collaborated on several songs. The predecessor to both bands was The Spades in which George & Roky participated. That is why the Golden Dawn and the 13th Floor Elevators have some lyric & melody similarities. The Golden Dawn played at Austin venues including the Vulcan Gas Company and The Pleasure Dome, among others. Kinney is extensively interviewed in the documentary on Austin's 60's music scene: Dirt Roads to Psychedelia.
