Sarsippius, listen to me
Attention Sarsippius, please focus your attention on me

You ever hear of the saying 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do'?
Have you ever been told to adapt to your surroundings? Follow the local customs - this is a common phrase.

I got a new one for you - 'When in Hell, we do it well'
Here's a new twist on that phrase - if you find yourself in a difficult situation, embrace it and make the most of it.

So you askin' me what this means?
Are you asking me what the phrase means?

Listen up real close, I'm tired of you sipping on gin and juice
Pay attention because I am getting fed up with your constant drinking of gin and juice.

Livin' in the hood ain't no joke, boy
Living in a tough neighborhood is not to be taken lightly, my friend.

Get yourself a Philly blunt and start smokin' on this dope
Relax and forget about your problems by smoking a cigar filled with marijuana.

Now, listen, son
Pay close attention, young man.

This is not a test or a trick
I am not joking or trying to deceive you.

And don't get it twisted
Don't get confused or misunderstand what I'm saying.

And don't forget, boy, you can't believe everything that you hear
Remember, young man, you shouldn't trust everything you hear.

So, if you got beef with somebody, and they're acting like a real bitch...
If you have a problem with someone and they're behaving badly...

...what you gotta do is go up to 'em and say, 'I said goddamn, I said goddamn!'
...the best course of action is to confront them and say strongly and assertively, 'I said goddamn, I said goddamn!'

They'll step back, 'cause what you're saying to 'em...you're tellin' them seriously to back off
This will make them take a step back because it's a serious demand to leave you alone.

You gotta stand up for yourself, Sarsippius
You must be able to defend yourself and show courage, Sarsippius.

You gotta play like you got some heart
You must approach life with courage and determination, as if you have a strong heart.

Man to man, now
I'm speaking to you on a personal level, man to man.

One of my favorite movies I’ll never get tired of watching. Angela Bassett is a beautiful phenomenal actress and to this DAY, she still looks gorgeous!!!!💗

Goddess of War

My therapist told me to watch this movie this weekend because I went to Jamaica last week and started a romance similar to this. He's 22 and I'm 31. She told me to watch this movie because I am tripping out over our age difference, but we clique really well though. I'm going back to see him next month. Wish me luck!

I found this to be one of the exceptions when I liked the movie much better than the book. No stream-of-consciousness narration intention (which is fine) that actually ended up being headache-inducing run-on sentences that lasted up to a page at a time. No constant dropping of product names or then-current songs (Stella Payne had awfully mainstream musical tastes for someone who furnished her house with innovative juxtaposition of colors and fabrics and even designed some furniture). No obsessing over feminine hygiene, or judgmental rants about stinky Rastas and ugly tourists or anyone who didn't happen to have a slim taut physique. No holing up in an all-inclusive for days except for a couple of trips to Rick's Cafe (that's a vacation. That's not travel.) It didn't hurt that Angela Bassett did well as Bernadine in 'Waiting To Exhale', because she was easily cast in a second McMillan adaptation and was just as suited for Stella's assertive corporate-career role. She gave off her suit-of-armor-over-a-bruised-heart vibe quite convincingly. A lot of reviewers had little to say about Taye Diggs except "Oooh" "Yum" "Sigh...", whereas the book's Winston was very handsome yet skinny and not overly muscular. (And this was often emphasized, so I was a little disappointed in seeing Winston played by an actor with a calendar-guy physique.) But that's about it. I had returned from my 4th and last Reggae Sunsplash shortly before reading the book. Even though I traveled there alone for the festival and I stayed in all-inclusives each time, I did some excursion tours and went into the mountains to Nine Miles in St. Ann each time. So I was looking forward to imagery of Jamaica's natural beauty and maybe the contrasts between fancy high-rise resorts and the far more humble buildings in their shadows. Forget it. Book-Stella's eyes were usually closed to everything in Jamaica but other people's looks and clothing and- to be fair- the gorgeous tropical sea. She did an inadequate job of describing everything her eyes did take in. But as I recall, the movie mostly made up for that. I'll probably see it again soon; it's been nearly 20 years.
