With a solid line-up of three-part vocal harmonies, smooth horn-driven melodies, and creatively-crafted rhythms, this five-piece is looking to start a rocksteady revolution.
It all started in the 90's when Kurt (bass), Mike (drums), and Tom (vocals and tenor sax) got together to play original ska music. Eventually they became known as Green Island, dipping in to the musical pools of ska, reggae, rocksteady, and dub. Featured on a number of compilations and their full length release "Hit 'em Soft and Slow" on Spit Shine Records, Green Island toured the country, sharing the stage with such talented acts as The Slackers, King Django, The Amazing Crowns, and The Toasters (to name a few).
After the departure of their lead singer, Green Island decided to combine their remaining talents, bringing Tim (vocals and guitar), Ben (vocals and trumpet), and Tom to the forefront to sing dense, flowing vocal harmonies. The end result-- the champions of 60's Jamaican music, The Harmonics. Their debut release, an 8-track EP named "You're Wrong," is currently available on Spit Shine Records, and material is currently being completed for a full-length sophomore effort.
One is hard-pressed to find in popular music today a band playing the kind of quality tunes that this band embraces, and perhaps the triumphant resurrection of rocksteady is not such a diffcult concept to realize with the arrival of Boston's own, The Harmonics.
Just in case you were wondering: Yes, the Harmonics are done. We played our last show in April of 06. We had a great time playing for those of you who might have seen us.
Influences:
Heavily influenced by Rocksteady from the late 60's (The Paragons, The Gaylads, The Melodians, The Ethiopians); also influenced by mid 60's ska (The Skatalites) and early reggae (The Heptones)
Band Members:
Tim (vocals, guitar)
Ben (vocals, trumpet, guitar)
Tom (vocals, tenor sax, organ)
Kurt (Bass)
Mike (Drums)

"WON'T SELL YOU OUT"
band: Harmonik
genre: Compas
Won't sell you out,
I won't sell you out sweetie
Even if you leave,
I'll come to get you anyway
Won't sell you out,
I won't sell you out sweetie
Even if you go
It's been two years since I fell in love
Despite all I have done
so I don't act like a crazy fool
I know damn well you're watching me
You hear rumors running about me everywhere
People's stories cause you to cut me off
That is why you put me in such a penitence
I don't want you to make me pay
(I don't want you to make me pay)
I don't wanna pay
I don't wanna pay for my weaknesses
It is love_it is love_it is love
I don't want you to make me pay
(I don't want you to make me pay)
I don't wanna pay
for a gift God put in my heart
It is love_it is love_it is love
But now I decided
to show you a different person
another aspect of me
Honey, don't get me forced out
When I write you,
you don't grab a pen to respond
You see my vulnerability
I'm waiting for you to come
get me out of my penitence
I don't want you to make me pay
(I don't want you to make me pay)
I don't wanna pay
I don't wanna pay for my weaknesses
It is love_it is love_it is love
I don't want you to make me pay
(I don't want you to make me pay)
I don't wanna pay
for a gift God put in my heart
It is love_it is love_it is love
Won't sell you out
I won't sell you out sweetie
Even if you leave
Oh ooh oh (2X)
I always ask how you're doing
Oh oh, oh oh
You never ask me how I am doing
O o, o o
Oh ooh oh (2X)
If you are not in my life, for me it is the biggest crime - in my life
A crime that can paralyze me
I'm watching my phone and I don't see you writing me - writing me
I know you have stories to tell me
It hurts me to hear the way people are describing _my life
Sweetie I'm not playing a victim
On the internet lots of chatting - on my back
Yet you know I'm better
than all those who are talking
You show me that there is love still
You show me there is love
You show me that there is love still
You show me there is love
If you are not in my life, for me it is the biggest crime - in my life
A crime that can paralyze me
I'm watching my phone and I don't see you writing me - writing me
I know you have stories to tell me
It hurts me to hear the way people are describing _my life
Sweetie I'm not playing a victim
On the internet lots of chatting--on my back
Yet you know I'm better
than all of those who are talking
Oh Ooh Oh (2X)
I always ask how you're doing
O o, o o
O o, o o
You never ask me how I am doing
