Catch the Wind
The Irish Descendants Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty
I want to be
In the warm hold of your loving mind
To feel you all around me,
To take your hand along the sand
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

When sundown hails the sky,
I want to hide awhile, behind your smile
everywhere I look, your eyes I find

And standing in your heart
Is where I want to be, I long to be
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

When rain has hung the leaves with tears
I want you near to kill my fear
Help me leave all my blues behind
For me to love you now
Would be the sweetest thing
It would make me sing
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty
I want to be
In the warm hold of your loving mind
To feel you all around me,
To take your hand along the sand
Ah, but I may as well try and catch

Ah, but I may as well try and catch
The Wind

Overall Meaning

The Irish Descendants's song "Catch The Wind" is a classic love song that expresses the desire to be with someone who can provide safety and comfort during uncertain times. The song starts with the singer acknowledging the "chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty" and how they "want to be in the warm hold of [their] loving mind." This is a clear expression of their desire to be with their loved one and feel safe in their presence. The singer goes on to describe how they want to feel their loved one around them and take their hand along the sand, yet they admit that it feels as futile as trying to catch the wind.

The chorus describes how the singer wants to hide behind their loved one's smile and be in their heart, but again admits that it feels like trying to catch the wind. In the second verse, the singer talks about when it rains and how they want their loved one to be near them to kill their fear and leave their blues behind. The final lines of the song express how loving their partner would be the sweetest thing and make them sing, but they may as well try to catch the wind.

Overall, "Catch The Wind" is an emotional and heartfelt song that captures the essence of love's desire for a sense of security and comfort during times of uncertainty.

I own everything they ever recorded. They remain in spite of changes over the years, my favorite band ever. I wish they'd record more.

These guys are fabulous. I just "discovered" them this morning when I listened to their version of "Let Me Fish Off Cape St. Mary" and was informed, via a posting on You Tube, that the group singing that wonderful song was called The Irish Descendants. I look forward to discovering more of their wonderful sound and will support them with my money as well as my mouth. Thanks for the great music, boys. (The lassie ain't bad to look at, either.)
