Other Side of Hope
The Kings of Nuthin' Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When i kissed her on the cheek and said id see her in a week
I never thought I'd be so wrong
Because in two weeks time when I finally came by
She was already two days gone

Came by her house when i came into town
Came by to see if somebody had burnt the motherfucker down
Leaving me and Liam all alone,
Sitting on the steps of the funeral home
To just cry and watch the cars go by.

That night i met her i snuck into to see some shitty band
She snuck in a case and passed a can.
That day i met some of my closest friends
Didn't know id see em again on the worst occasion
From the summer i thought it'd never end
To the worst parking lot reunion.

Never had much those dumpster diet days
Just friends to help us cope and a place to stay
One flight up on the other side of hope

From the summer i thought it'd never end
To the worst parking lot reunion

When I kissed her on the cheek and said id see her in a week
I never thought I'd be so wrong

Because after two weeks time it took three more years
Just to try to write this song.

Today would have been Torr's 41st birthday. I got to know him in the late 90's when we met in Home Depot at the key counter. I asked him if he was in a band, and he asked me the same. We formed the Boston Blackouts that night with Torr on bass and me singing. I miss him......RIP buddy.

Lyrics tell the story of a dear friend (plain-Jane and impoverished, but selfless) who lived "on the other side of Hope" [Street] -- couldn't afford to visit her family for the holidays, so she stayed in her run-down apartment while the slumlord, thinking it empty, burned the place down for the insurance money. This is by far my favorite of their songs. I miss my brother every day.

I actually think this is a great song. Who said its about culture. These guys are probly some of the only "turds" in the music scene that still have something that music lost a long ass time ago. Soul. Lets see Taylor swift, George Straight, and Kanye West do something like this. They cant cuz they dont have "soul". At least with this album from the Kings of Nuthin'. Other albums dont catch my fancy.

I know Manda is probly nit gonna read this but i dont think anybody who listens to this band think its pure unique sound. Its obviously not. But compared to shit thats on the radio this is pretty damn unique in every way shape and form. If people dont wanna use this sound then others will take it and make it better
