Formed in 1963 in Muswell Hill, North London, they first gained prominence on the heels of the well-received and highly influential single "You Really Got Me" (1964). The group originally consisted of lead singer/guitarist Ray Davies, his brother lead guitarist Dave Davies, drummer Mick Avory, and bassist Pete Quaife. Quaife left (twice) in the late 1960s, and Avory finally left in 1984 as the result of a long-running dispute with Dave Davies, leaving only the Davies brothers as the core of the original group.
With Ray Davies' songwriting skills and unabashedly English voices, Dave Davies' impressive guitar work, and Avory's tight and steady drumming, the band became one of the best and most influential groups of British pop and the "British Invasion" of the U.S.A., lasting longer than any of their competitors, apart from the Rolling Stones, as they broke up in 1996. Their catalogue of songs has been covered by Van Halen, The Pretenders, The Black Keys, The Stranglers, Queens of the Stone Age , and many more.

Nothin' In the World Can Stop Me Worryin' 'Bout That Girl
The Kinks Lyrics

Met a girl, fell in love, glad as I can be
But I think all the time, is she true to me?
'Cause there's nothing in this world to stop me worryin' 'bout that girl
I found out I was wrong, she was just two timing
I found out I was wrong, she just kept on lying
Now she tries to tell the truth, and I just can't believe
Tell me who can I turn to, just who can I believe?
Tried to put her out of my mind, she'll only cause me grief
I love that girl, whatever she's done, you know it hurts me deeply
'Cause there's nothing in this world to stop me worryin' 'bout that girl
I know she's been with other fellas, why does she keep on lying?
It hurts me so when she says nothing, I really feel like dying
I ache inside until I think[?], I know it's just my pride
'Cause there's nothing in this world to stop me worryin' 'bout that girl
'Cause there's nothing in this world to stop me worryin' 'bout that girl
The Kinks' song "Nothin' In the World Can Stop Me Worryin' 'Bout That Girl" depicts a young man who has fallen in love with a girl but is plagued by constant doubts about her loyalty. He initially feels glad to have met her and fallen in love, but soon begins to ask himself whether she is trustworthy. The singer discovers that the girl is in fact unfaithful and that she has been lying to him. Despite her attempts to be honest, he can't bring himself to believe her because his worries have become all-consuming. His love for her is so intense that he finds it impossible to move on from the idea of her and to stop worrying about her deceitful ways.
The song captures the emotional turmoil of a person who has been betrayed by someone they trusted. The internal struggle of the singer is relatable to anyone who has ever been in love and feared the possibility of being taken for granted. The repetitive nature of the song's chorus reinforces the singer's sense of despair and the feeling that he is unable to escape from his worries.
