The Lampshades formed in 2003 as teenagers in the Altoona, Pennsylvania are… Read Full Bio ↴The Lampshades formed in 2003 as teenagers in the Altoona, Pennsylvania area with two of three present members in this original lineup, guitarist/vocalist, Jaren Love and bassist, Chris Kibler. Like many teenage bands, they got their start playing all ages shows in VFW halls and YMCA's while scrounging what little money they had to finance records. The band put out two releases while still in high school, but had a significant change when adding drummer/multi-instrumentalist Dane Adelman in 2007. The band put out the ambitious indie pop record Are Alright in 2008 produced by Adelman himself. The album was greeted with positive reviews and even landed the band an opportunity to open for bands such as Deerhunter and No Age. After going on a three year hiatus from Summer 2009 to Spring 2012, the band is back with an EP that has two songs from what will be on an upcoming full length as well as two previously unreleased songs from their 2009 sessions. With the whole band new residing in Pittsburgh, Arena Punk shows a truly evolved band in a new sophisticated, raw and at times much heavier sounding direction.

Both my boyfriend and I are huge metalheads- We like bands like Gojira, Mastodon, Deafheaven, Isis, Baroness, Ghost (okay, they are debatable metal, but still great), Redfang. He gets into more brutal stuff too, but these bands form the base of what we listen to.

Yet we really like Indie music too. It might be because half those bands are basically indie metal, but... who knows.

i thought of it as describing a type of person. one that just burns thru life only seeking pleasure and leaving behind destruction ("packed up our cars moved to the next town" "this ones done so where to now?") or if not a type of person then a person struggling to change. ik the singer used to have drug problems and this feels like it describes that kind of state. tho i think both interpretations are true at the same time (enlightened centrist i know) i see some of their other songs the same way, as being about humanity as a whole (often in an enviornmental way or just talking about human nature) but through that also about certain types of people.

like Coyotes is a good example, its obviously about how we mistreat coyotes and nature as a whole, but also about how we treat those we love. "and we say were in love with all of it" is about how despite us saying we love all of nature we hate, neglect, and fear the unattractive parts of it. were afraid of the sharks and treat coyotes like pests, theres a stark difference between how we treat them and how we treat wolves. And its also about how we claim to love all of a person but we hate and neglect the parts of them we dont like. in both interpretations its about claiming to love something but only loving the idea of it you have in your head, often to the detriment of the thing youre claiming to love.

I have been a fan of Modest Mouse from the very beginning, and by gods this new album is just another top-notch heart pulling rhythmic brain bustlin'-bustin' multi-layered album. Each album is unique in its own vendetta for itself (or others), so I can see why some newcomers will feel intimidated about going into the past - while also realizing how much emotion they missed. I encourage all to have an open ear, heart, and soul to this album. It may sometimes be just repetitive mumbo-jumbo catchy stuff that the radio plays (and do not appreciate the song's inner meaning), but Modest Mouse took 8 years to release an album for a reason.

This album reeks of diversity. Every song is meant for something in his own mind. A clear view and raging talent is the legacy of Isaac Brock. I have never been to so many emotional planes listening to an album. The story and idea behind each song, matched with so many different and same sounds is close to home but fresh anew. Even after all these years and all of his experience he's still got a real hold on music and at the end of the day, he is a musician so he midaswell be stellar at it. They are true entertainers and one hell of a band. This has to be my new favorite from them; and I really appreciate all the weed blazing in the video, support for legalization in any form! It's really all interpretation...depending on the time era, I would say they vary. Indie, alternative, emo, grunge, punk...I've heard them do a lot of different stuff. Their newer stuff has a sillier and groovier sound (or so it seems) but I guess it all depends!

you know lampshade really have a lot of energy, the opposite attraction from mostly positive lightbulbs makes them have quite an amount of positivity. the green blues have been catching my eyes and ive seen tachyons from most lightbulbs and shades and whatnot, what a life.
