Sugar
The Last Year Lyrics

Twisted my circuits, makin' me blind
But I just keep coming back to you though I know
I'm not the type to get addicted, to you
Oooo Ooooo Sh-Sh-Sugar
Oooo Ooooo Sh-Sh-Sugar
His bitter sweet's holding me tight
Most days I feel so unhappy too
But that disappears when I'm with you
You pick me up and then shove me down
I once was lost, but now I'm drownin' in
Oooo Ooooo Sh-Sh-Sugar
Oooo Ooooo Sh-Sh-Sugar
His bitter sweet's holding me tight
Hurts and kills, but it gets me high
I just can't stop, can't get my fill
If taste can kill, you've got me ill
The Last Year's song "Sugar" is a powerful representation of the concept of addiction. The lyrics talk about how the singer is aware that they should not be addicted to someone, but they cannot help themselves. The person they are addicted to is compared to sugar, which is sweet but also has the ability to harm and be deadly. The singer acknowledges that the relationship is hurting them and making them unhappy, but they are unable to let go of it. The line "Most days I feel so unhappy too, but that disappears when I'm with you" indicates that the singer is using the relationship as an escape from their problems, knowing that it is not a healthy coping mechanism.
The lyrics also touch upon the idea of the addiction cycle, where the person experiences highs and lows. The line "You pick me up and then shove me down" portrays the psychological manipulation and instability that often comes with addiction. The singer is unable to leave the relationship, even as it harms them, because they are trapped in a cycle of highs and lows that is almost impossible to break.
Overall, "Sugar" is a poignant and relatable take on the concept of addiction. The Last Year's lyrics accurately convey the destructive nature of addiction, the cycle of highs and lows, and the almost irresistible allure of something that is harmful.

Love the song. Every new effort you produce has a different sound to it - you are never the same song twice, which is really great. How high up was the sugar at the end? It seemed like it took forever for it to hit you after you pulled the chain! lol
Fatally Yours
