The band formed in 1986 as an underground punk rock act. Their popularity grew during the following decade with the 1992 album It's A Shame About Ray, which was produced, engineered, and mixed by The Robb Brothers (Bruce Robb, Dee, and Joe), followed by a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson", which eventually became one of the band's most successful singles.
Throughout its various incarnations, recording and touring lineups of the band have included co-founders Ben Deily and Jesse Peretz, John Strohm (Blake Babies), Doug Trachten, Corey Loog Brennan, Byron Hoag, Ben Daughtry, Juliana Hatfield (Blake Babies), Nic Dalton (Godstar, Sneeze, The Plunderers), Dave Ryan, Patrick "Murph" Murphy (Dinosaur Jr), Bill Gibson (Eastern Dark), Mark 'Budola' Newman, Kenny Lyon, Vess Ruhtenberg, Devon Ashley, Karl Alvarez and Bill Stevenson (Descendents), P. David Hazel and various others.
Cited as one of the most important alternative rock groups, The Lemonheads were active until 1997 and went on hiatus, but reformed with a new lineup in 2005 and released The Lemonheads in the following year. The band released its latest album, Varshons, in June 2009.

You feel it when you feel fine later on
A shower you can't depend on at all
It's too hot then it's too cold then it's warm
Something's missing something's missing
Something's missing something's missing
From my life
The things I don't multiply and divide when
It's gonna come back again been here before
It's gonna come back my friend
Something's missing something's missing
Something's missing something's missing
From my life
I ain't quiet deep inside I ain't even on my side
Something's missing from my life
There's nowhere I really wanted to stay and
Nothing really makes it ok
Nothing really makes it ok
There's nowhere I really wanted to stay
Something's missing something's missing
Something's missing
The Lemonheads' "Something's Missing" is a reflection on the feeling of emptiness and incompleteness that one can experience, despite having many of the things that they might have desired. The lyrics contemplate the alienation and emotional distance that one can feel, even when surrounded by familiar and comfortable surroundings. The opening lines of the song highlight how easy it can be to make decisions, but also emphasize the ambiguity that surrounds the choices we make. The subsequent lines about a shower that can't be depended on represent the unpredictability of life and the way that sometimes things can go wrong no matter how much we prepare.
The repetition of the refrain "something's missing" throughout the song is symbolic of the void that the singer feels within their life. This could be interpreted as a search for meaning, purpose, or fulfillment. The line "I just can't decide been here before, it's gonna come back again been here before, it's gonna come back my friend" suggests that this feeling of emptiness has been experienced before and that it will likely resurface again. The lines "I ain't quiet deep inside I ain't even on my side" highlight the inner turmoil that the singer is experiencing and the way in which they are not at peace with themselves.
Overall, "Something's Missing" is a song about restlessness, uncertainty, and a longing for something more. It captures the feeling of being adrift in the world, even when one has all of the things that they thought they wanted. The lyrics suggest that sometimes we need to go beyond the surface level of our lives and delve into the deeper questions of existence to truly find what we are looking for.
