These singers debuted on The Lawrence Welk Show in 1955 after their school classmate, Larry Welk, son of Lawrence Welk, brought them to the attention of his father. They were a mainstay on the show until they left to start a career of their own in 1968. The quartet was only three members from 1960 to 1964; oldest sister Dianne got married, left the group, and then rejoined them again.
Over the decades, they recorded many albums. Their first album was on Brunswick Records and later on Coral, Dot, Ranwood and Mercury. They have recently released four CD volumes of songs taken from their own ABC-TV show.
They are not related to the Beatle John Lennon.

The Lennon Sisters Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
"Glory to the new-born King!
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled."
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th' angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem."
"Glory to the new-born King!
Christ, by highest heaven adored:
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of the favoured one.
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail, th'incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King!
Hail! the heaven-born
Prince of peace!
Hail! the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the son of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King !"
The first verse of The Lennon Sisters' rendition of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing is a message of celebration for the birth of Jesus Christ. The songstress prompts people across the globe to rise and celebrate the birth of Jesus by proclaiming the news with the angelic host. She calls for peaceful coexistence and understanding across humanity. The singer celebrates the reconciliation of God and sinners through the coming of Christ, heralding His birth in Bethlehem. The song speaks of the goodwill, love, and the mercy that the Lord has for humankind.
The second verse continues in adoration of Christ, whom the highest heaven adores. The song praises Christ, who is the everlasting Lord, hailing His arrival as being "late in time." He is the Son of Mary, who is favored by God. The singer acknowledges the incarnation of the deity, the embodiment of the invisible God in a human form. The song praises His humbleness in leaving his heavenly kingdom to dwell among men as one of them.
The third verse begins by hailing Jesus as the heaven-born Prince of Peace and the Son of Righteousness, bringing light and life to all. The singer speaks of the healing which Jesus brings to humanity at His rebirth, laying His glory aside to take up human suffering by sacrificing Himself for the sin of humankind. The song celebrates the second birth of man, which Jesus gives by His actions, and calls for global celebration and adoration for the new-born King.
