These singers debuted on The Lawrence Welk Show in 1955 after their school classmate, Larry Welk, son of Lawrence Welk, brought them to the attention of his father. They were a mainstay on the show until they left to start a career of their own in 1968. The quartet was only three members from 1960 to 1964; oldest sister Dianne got married, left the group, and then rejoined them again.
Over the decades, they recorded many albums. Their first album was on Brunswick Records and later on Coral, Dot, Ranwood and Mercury. They have recently released four CD volumes of songs taken from their own ABC-TV show.
They are not related to the Beatle John Lennon.
When I Fall in Love
The Lennon Sisters Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Maybe I am living in the past
But when I meet the right one
I know that I'll be true
My first love will be the last
When I fall in love it will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love
Love is ended before it began
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun
When I give my heart it will be completely
Or I'll never, never, never give my heart
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I give my heart to you
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I give my heart to you
The Lennon Sisters's song Young And In Love is a classic love song that reflects on the singer's perspective on love, relationships and commitment. The song starts with the singer acknowledging that maybe she is old fashioned and living in the past, but she believes that when she finds the right person, she will remain committed and true to him, making him her first and last love. She considers that in a fast-paced and ever-changing world, relationships often end abruptly and prematurely, and the intensity of love fails to survive the everyday rigors and challenges. Thus, she emphasizes that when she falls in love, she wants it to last forever, as love should be all about commitment and loyalty.
The singer further emphasizes that when she gives her heart, she does it entirely, without any reservations or doubts, or she never gives it at all. She believes that the only time she can give her heart is when she is sure that her lover feels the same way as she does. The song conveys a message of hope, optimism, and true love, reflecting on the desire to find a long-lasting, meaningful relationship built on mutual trust, commitment, and understanding.
Overall, The Lennon Sisters's song Young And In Love portrays an earnest and thoughtful perspective on love, emphasizing the importance of commitment and loyalty. The song's melody is soothing, and the lyrics offer an insightful reflection on the complexities of relationships.
