Born to Lose
The Loose Skrews Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Born to lose, I've lived my life in vain
Ev'ry dream has only brought me pain
All my life I've always been so blue
Born to lose, and now I'm losing you

Born to lose, it seems so hard to bear
How I long to always have you near
You've grown tired, and now you say we're through
Born to lose, and now I'm losing you

Riff

Born to lose, my every hope is gone
It's so hard to face that empty dawn
You were all the happiness I knew
Born to lose and now I'm losing you

There is no use to dream of happiness
All I see is only loneliness

All my life, I've always been so blue
Born to lose, and now I'm losing you

Overall Meaning

The Loose Skrews's song Born to Lose is a sorrowful tune about someone who feels like they were born to fail or lose. The first stanza sets the tone, "Born to lose, I've lived my life in vain, Ev'ry dream has only brought me pain, All my life I've always been so blue, Born to lose, and now I'm losing you." The singer feels like their dreams have never come to fruition and as if they were always meant to fail. The line "now I'm losing you" seems to suggest that the only thing that brought them any sort of happiness or solace is now being taken away from them.

As the song continues, the singer's desperation becomes more evident. In the second stanza, the singer shares how difficult it is to bear the thought of losing their loved one. "Born to lose, it seems so hard to bear, How I long to always have you near, You've grown tired, and now you say we're through, Born to lose, and now I'm losing you." The third stanza solidifies the fact that the singer feels as though they are alone and hopeless without their significant other. "Born to lose, my every hope is gone, It's so hard to face that empty dawn, You were all the happiness I knew, Born to lose and now I'm losing you." Despite their efforts and hopes, everything that was good in their lives has slipped away.

The final two lines of the last stanza are particularly poignant: "All my life, I've always been so blue, Born to lose, and now I'm losing you." The singer seems to have accepted that their life will never be filled with happiness or success. They conclude that they were born to lose, and losing their loved one only confirms this fact.
