ACT TOUGH SEE WHERE I DWELL

Overall Meaning

The Madd's song "I'm Rowed Out" is a classic example of a rebellious garage rock anthem. The lyrics of the song convey the frustration of a young person who is tired of the conformity and expectations that society has placed on them. The recurring theme in the lyrics of the song is the expression "act tough," which serves as a common denominator and a catchy hook that is sure to get the audience singing along.

The first two lines of the song serve as a warning to anyone who tries to push the singer around. They suggest that if you try to act tough, you'll end up dead and burning in hell. The next two lines are a bit more reflective and introspective. They imply that the singer has had enough of pretending to be tough and is ready to rest and take it easy. The final line suggests that the singer has found a place where they feel safe and accepted for who they are, even if it is not what society deems as "tough."

The song's appeal lies in its raw energy, catchy guitar riffs, and lyrics that express a sense of rebellion and defiance that is common among young people. It is a call to arms for anyone who has felt trapped and constrained by the expectations of society and wants to break free and be themselves.

I found this song in the process of playing "When the Night Falls" and decided to give it a listen. This song is a winner and one to turn the volume up to. The Eyes were another band like the Pretty Things, that should have hit it big back in the US but unfortunately didn't.

I can't explain how much I like this song!

This is NOT US punk garage, but rather 60s Mod like the Who/Small Faces; the Eyes were ENGLISH, inspired by the Who. This track is the B-side of their first single from late '65; they had four UK-only 45s on Mercury records, but no album when active (you needed a actual "hit" to record an entire LP back then). This is fantastic, one of the best English non-hit records of the 60's, even if it's based on "Can't Explain" and "Watcha Gonna Do About It". Thanks for posting!

Why wasn't this killer track played in the USA in 1966?

Garage and Punk are deeply connected, and quite alike.. Put some more distortion on the guit, stronger drums and a harsher , less singing voice , ( practically another band playing the same song in their style), and you got yourself a standard 60s-70s punk song.

Always a favourite with myself and Penny at Colibosher do's.
