Compared to Southern rock pioneers and label-mates The Allman Brothers Band, Marshall Tucker had a more country and western feel, with the flute being a key lead instrument in their sound. "Can't You See", "Fire on the Mountain", and "This Ol' Cowboy" are among their songs that received appreciable FM radio airplay, while "Heard It in a Love Song" made it to #14 as a single on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1977.
Original bassist Tommy Caldwell died in a car crash on April 28, 1980. His brother, guitarist Toy Caldwell, died of respiratory failure on February 25, 1993.
There was no band member named "Marshall Tucker". Originally, the band called itself The Toy Factory (named after lead-guitarist Toy Caldwell). But by the time the band released its first album they had become the Marshall Tucker Band. During a radio interview in Hempstead, NY in 1973, Tommy Caldwell explained the origins of the band's name:
"There's an old blind dude [in Spartanburg, SC] that tunes pianos, and his name is Marshall Tucker... We didn't name the band after him, but we just kind of liked that name and stuck with it."
I'll Be Loving You

Melts the morning dew
I'll be loving you
When the evening sun
Tells me the day is done
I'll be loving you
And I'll be loving you
Until my dying days
And I'll be loving you
Just an old fool set in my ways
Although it seems
That you are in my dreams
I'll be loving you
Somehow I know
It's really gotta show
That I'll be loving you
[Chorus]
It won't mean the same
If you never know my name
'Cause I'll be loving you
When the morning sun
Melts the morning dew
I'll be loving you
[Chorus]
The lyrics to The Marshall Tucker Band's song, I'll Be Loving You, exude a sense of unwavering devotion and love for the person he is singing to. The song speaks of the steadfast love that the singer has for his significant other. The opening lines, "When the morning sun melts the morning dew, I'll be loving you" and "When the evening sun tells me the day is done, I'll be loving you," set the tone for the song. The love the singer has for his significant other is embodied in every moment of his day, whether it be the start or end of his day, he'll love her.
The singer expounds on the fact that the love he has for his significant other is so strong that it'll last until his dying days. He goes on to sing, "Somehow I know it's really gotta show, that I'll be loving you." The love that he has for her is undeniable - he knows she sees it and feels it. The song continues to express the fact that his love for her won't mean the same if she never knows his name. She is the recipient of his unwavering love, and it's important to him that she knows who he is - that he's the one that'll always love her.

Paul Riddle is just a awesome drummer ..John Bonahm and Nile Peart gets most of the attention but Paul just kills it in this with is jazz move infusions like he did with so many other MTB songs. ..

I don't believe that in my 45+ years of rock appreciation that I have ever heard a better studio rhythm combo of acoustic guitar, bass and drums on ANY tune. And that guitar solo kills! What a bloody great, largely undiscovered gem of a song!Search the vaults and you can find jewels.

Have loved these guys from day 1, and Can't You See will always be up there in my opinion, but asking the family to play this at my funeral will make my wife's tears turn to joy !!!

The guitar of Toy Caldwell in this song is some of the hardest, fastest most awesome guitar licks I have ever heard. My first concert was the MTB and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Nothing has come close to the finest concert I have ever been to since.
