Let It All Be
The Melvins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When did it begin?
And will it ever end?
The way you take the muscle from the song
And kinda swing it
You lay it on
And I ain't one of your friends
Losing all the grain
And now you say it
Now why would that be me?
And why would I agree
To keep it in my head
And what you think is cold
The nature of my soul
Sorry man
I ain't gonna be told
Let it all be
I wonder why
You put this on me
I speak my mind
Its sorta funny
I'm violent with the hands in my head
They kind of move
But movin' gets me nowhere
Now you can all decide
And you can tell your lies
But who you call your friends
And what you think is cold
The nature of my soul
Sorry man
I ain't gonna be told
Let it all be

Tangle it in the ends
Heart in hand
Lookin' for the blood
Of the white man
Lookin' for the day
When I can be an Indian
After all this time
I get my revenge
But I, I ain't no Indian
I have to kill
With what I can

Dream of their fight,
Dream of their death

Overall Meaning

The Melvins's song Let It All Be is a song that explores the singer's inner thoughts and feelings. The song begins by questioning when and how it will all end, and goes on to express frustration with someone who takes the muscle out of the song and swings it in a way that feels wrong. The lyrics suggest a sense of distrust and wariness of those around the singer, as well as a strong desire to speak their mind and not be controlled or told what to do. The song also touches on themes of revenge, violence, and a longing for a different life.

One interesting fact about the song Let It All Be is that it was written by Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne specifically for the movie Singles, which was released in 1992. Another interesting fact is that the song features backing vocals from Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, who was a friend of the band and a fan of their music. Let It All Be is also notable for its use of heavy, distorted guitar riffs and pounding drums, which are hallmarks of the Melvins' signature sound. The song has been described as a standout track on the band's 1992 album, Lysol.

Dale Crover is criminally underrated.

@squishydafishy

There will never be another like him....sadly. Should be immortal

@centralscrutinizer1757

I bet Dale likes it that way

@andrewhigdon8346

Just take note that Kurt Cobain played various instruments on Houdini before he ate a shotgun shell. Without the Melvins, a lot of the crazy shit we love may not have come around. Bullhead. Listen to it again. And then once more.

A-greed!

@TrackHeadStudios

Agreed. He makes the drums practically sing the vocals, play the bass, the guitars: lead and rhythm!!
He’s always a great complement to each song.
