Formed in 1985, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones started playing in Boston clubs in the mid-1980s. After a brief period of inactivity due to the schooling commitments of its members, they reformed and released their album Devil's Night Out on Taang! Records. The Bosstones toured relentlessly throughout the 1990s, playing hundreds of shows a year, releasing albums and spinning off the popular rock radio hit "Someday I Suppose". They were eventually signed to Mercury Records. The band appeared in the movie Clueless. In 1997, the success of their single "The Impression That I Get" and its follow up, "The Rascal King" earned them mainstream recognition. In 2000 they put out their critically acclaimed disk Pay Attention. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their last album on Side One Dummy Records. They officially went on hiatus in 2003, citing too much time on the road and desire to branch out and do different things. In 2007, the Bosstones announced that they were reforming. They played their 10th Hometown Throwdown in Boston and released a new album, Medium Rare, which consists of rare B-sides, and 3 new songs, including the single, "Don't Worry Desmond Dekker".
The band announced their split in early 2022.

Simmer down, he's gonna get dropped so
Simmer down, man, here's what I say
Simmer down, now I've got to got to simmer down
A long time ago we used to be friends
Picked my bones in my pockets that's where it ends so
Simmer down, the battle will be hotter
Simmer down, o.k. here's what I say
Simmer down, oh, I'm leaving in a day
Simmer down, here's what I say
Simmer down, oh, I'm leaving in a day
Simmer down, o.k. here's what I'm saying
Simmer down, it's got to be this way
Where's the love, where is the loyalty?
We did our part now where is the love?
Simmer down, control my temper
Simmer down, the battle will be hotter
Simmer down, it's hard cause it hurts so
Simmer down, kick me off
Simmer down, but the pain still exists
Simmer down, and hey I'm sure he'll be missed
Simmer down, it'll make us stronger
Simmer down, and we'll live a lot longer so
Simmer down, what goes around
Simmer down, will come around
Simmer down, I know I've got to simmer down
Simmer down, I'm trying to simmer down
Simmer down, I've got to got to simmer down oh
Simmer Down, it's hard cause it hurts
Simmer Down
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones's song "Simmer Down" is a powerful track that talks about controlling one's temper and being patient in tough situations. The lyrics talk about the need to simmer down when things get heated up and the importance of battling one's own anger to save relationships. The song starts with the repeated chorus "Simmer down, my head is too hot so, Simmer down, he's gonna get dropped so," which means that the singer is feeling frustrated and angry and needs to calm down. "Simmer down, man, here's what I say, simmer down, now I've got to got to simmer down" further emphasizes the need to control anger before it gets out of hand.
The song also talks about a broken friendship, with the lyrics "A long time ago we used to be friends, picked my bones in my pockets that's where it ends so." The singer wants to reignite the friendship but is frustrated and hurt by the lack of loyalty and love from the other person. However, the song ends on a hopeful note, with the chorus "Simmer down, what goes around will come around, Simmer down, I know I've got to simmer down, Simmer down, I'm trying to simmer down" indicating the singer's determination to control their anger and let time heal all wounds.
Overall, "Simmer Down" is a powerful call to control one's temper and emotions in tough situations, and shows how patience and understanding can go a long way in fostering healthy relationships.

This band just makes me happy-- it wouldn't matter if they sucked (which they don't) it would still make me smile to hear a saxophone solo over a heavily distorted punk rock guitar. :)
