Dream Girl
The New Trocaderos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It was nothin' but a dream girl,
Playin' out inside your dream world,
Now it's left you feelin' oh so low, (harmonies on "oh so low," just like demo)
And it wasn't even re-e-eal, (up on "real"/doubled vox or harmony on "real")

I see you walkin' in the rain girl,
All alone and far away girl,
Don't you ever wanna see the sun, and remember love,
We had,

You're in a dre-e-eam
(A dream)
My dream girl
(Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo)
You're in a dre-e-eam
A dream you have, of losing love,
That you can't shake off,

Now you're walkin' in the rain girl,
All alone and far away girl,
I can only hope you'll see the sun, and decide to run,
To me,

You're in a dre-e-eam (A dream)
My dream girl
(A dream)
You're in a dre-e-eam
(A dream)
A dream you have, of losing love,
That you can't shake off,

I-I-I don't wanna be,
The guy who gives you sympathy,

I-I-I just wanna be,
The guy who brings you ba-a-ack to m-e-e-e-e-e...

Overall Meaning

The New Trocaderos' song Dream Girl tells the story of a girl who appears only in dreams and leaves the singer feeling low. The lyrics describe the girl as a dream girl, one who only exists in the dream world. The singer watches as the girl walks in the rain, alone and far away, and wishes that she could remember the love they had shared. The singer acknowledges that the girl is stuck in a dream of losing love and hopes that she will see the sun and decide to run back to him. He doesn't want to be the guy who gives her sympathy, but rather the one who brings her back to him.

The lyrics of Dream Girl are open to interpretation, but they seem to speak to the idea of romantic attachment to an idealized person or image, and the consequences of that attachment. The dream girl represents something that is out of reach, and the singer is left feeling low because of it. He wants her back, but he also understands that she may be stuck in her own dream of losing love. Ultimately, the song is about the power of dreams to influence and shape our desires and relationships.
