sister
The Nixons Lyrics

Overwhelming feelings
A thousand miles away
From your ocean home
Part of me is near
Thoughts of what we were invade
The miles that stand between
Your all I hoped you'd become
Sister I see you
Dancing on the stage
Of memory
Sister I miss you
Fleeting visits pass
Still they satisfy
Reminders of the next
Overshadow goodbye
Our flames burn as one
Sister I see you
Dancing on the stage
Of memory
Sister I miss you
All I am begins with you
Thoughts of hope understood
Half of me breathes in you
Thoughts of love remain true
Here we are again saying goodbye
Still we fall asleep underneath the same sky
You're all I knew you'd become
Sister I see you
Dancing on the stage
Of memory
Sister I miss you
Entwined, you and I
Our souls speak from across the miles
Intertwined, you and I
Our blood flows from the same inside
Half of me, breathes in you
Thoughts of love remain true
I see you, I feel you
When I close my eyes
I see walking there...
I see you dancing in my mind
The Nixons’ song “Sister” is a poignant tribute to a loved one who is far away. The song begins with the singer acknowledging that they are “a thousand miles away” from their loved one’s “ocean home” and that their overwhelming feelings are invading their thoughts. Despite the physical separation, the singer feels a connection to their sister, as if “part of me is near” and that they cannot be separated. The memories of their time together as children flood back, and the singer longs to be reunited with their sister once again.
As the song progresses, the singer reminisces about the moments they’ve shared, including their sister’s dancing on stage, as a reminder of the bond they share. Despite the limited time they have together, they remain deeply connected even as they say goodbye, falling asleep under the same sky, and “entwined” in spirit.
The final verse of the song focuses on the singer’s deep love for their sister. They say that “all I am begins with you,” and that their thoughts of hope, love, and understanding are all rooted in their relationship with their sister. Even though they are apart, the bond between them is unbreakable, and they will always see each other in their memories and in their dreams.

Greatest song ever written, and recorded. After loosing my wife of 31 years to cancer, I would sit in the room where she slept alone for two years, listen to this song, and cry. It was the most wrenching and emotional time of my life, and one that I will never forget. One can move on, but the memories remain forever.

God bless you sir.

As a cancer survivor I know what you mean. I could not stand the thought of my kids without a dad and my broken wife. It made me fight like hell. I’m one of the lucky ones. I still listen to this song with the same emotion as I did back in the 90’s.
May you find happiness again someday

I'm sorry for the loss of your wife.
This song brings back a lot of memories. Some good and some bad. It makes some more sense now.

My sister is special needs. She was born with cerebral palsy and has the mental capacity at 40 of a 9-10 year old. Our parents passed away tragically in car accident with a DUI driver 4 mos ago. So my sister is now living with me and is my responsibility. I accepted this without even thinking twice. My sister is my sister and my only sibling. I will love her, care for her and be her protector until the last breath leaves my body. ❤❤❤❤❤
God be with you all. Keep your head up and know that our God is a loving God.
