I live in Norway but I like very little of old music from Europe and Norway ( only two singers one from Norway and one from sweden), but I love this old american music ( recorded before 1950) and I'm big fan of Peerless Quartet. They was/is a very great quartet with only delightful recordings.

Music tips: Otto Clausen a norwegian american who recorded for Edision Records. His voice is beautiful.
His recording Kan du glemme gamle Norge is beautiful.

You might check out Jack Stanley's U-tube upload "WWI and the naive nature of the American public and its music". You might also check out "Stinchcomb-Schlueter, 1910's" for actual photos taken by my uncle during WWI.

This song reverses the stance of their earlier (1915) hit, "I Didn't Raise My Boy To Be A Soldier". What changed? Simple. When "I Didn't Raise My Boy To Be A Soldier" hit, America wasn't in the war. Now in 1917, it was.

Personally, I associate myself with the sentiments of "I Didn't Raise My Boy To Be A Soldier."

World War 1 was started by warmongering and/or blundering politicians. Millions of dead and wounded resulted. Nice going.

@Orville H. Larson WW1 could have been an easily avoided war if cooler heads prevailed and Franz Frediand's driver didn't take the wrong turn

The song is, in some ways, a piece of propaganda. It was very popular in May, 1917, the month that Woodrow Wilson signed the Selective Service Act (the "draft"). America, here's my boy.
