From the howling voodoo high priest Gideon Bensen to the Magdeline-esque passion of Isabella Manfredi, the voices in this band stir up a religious fervor that makes you want to drink the kool aid and wait for the spaceship. And after only one year together and the release of a self-titled EP, The Preatures are embarking on a project that flicks the finger to all expectation. Dubbed The 66 Project it sees the band in collaboration with local artists, filmmakers, and producer Tony Buchen (Tim Finn, WIM) to release free music until May 2011.
The band had started with the name; The Preachers, but to make it more original and not to make anyone confused with 60s American band named The Preachers, the band had announced on August 2nd 2012 that their new name would be The Preatures.

The Preatures Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
How do I look now? Am I a beauty?
Whatever makes me a modern girl
Well, nothing makes me a modern girl
Fantasy rules and it's there in my room
Yeah, I tear myself apart for kicks, for you
Whatever makes me a modern girl
Hands shaking, breaking mirrors
It keeps me up all night
Give me heroism, give me what is mine
Yeah, that's me you've seen
There dancing in denial and all the boys say
"You alright? You've been in
There a while"
Two lines in the pink and
I'm back in the clinic
Whatever makes me happy, well
I push it away, Yeah
Whatever makes me a modern girl
Well, nothing makes me a modern girl
In my dreams I'm more than vixen or divine
Give me heroism, give me what is mine
Yeah, that's me you've seen
There dancing in denial and all the boys say
"You alright? You've been in
There a while"
And I hold my hand out for you, face to face
You lie
C'mon, give me heroism, give me what is mine
Yeah, that's me you've seen
There dancing in denial and all the boys say
"You alright? You've been in
There a while"
"You've been in there a while
You've been in there a while
You've been in there a while"
The lyrics of The Preatures's song "Girlhood" explore themes of self-image, societal expectations, and the desire for personal agency. The opening lines, "Nobody moves, it's a movie, How do I look now? Am I a beauty?" suggest a sense of self-consciousness and a desire for validation. The singer questions her appearance and strives to fit the mold of a modern girl, but ultimately realizes that nothing external defines her identity.
The line "Fantasy rules and it's there in my room" suggests that the singer finds solace and escape in her own imagination. She admits to tearing herself apart for the thrill or attention of others, but recognizes that these actions don't truly make her a modern girl. The repetition of the phrase "Whatever makes me a modern girl, Nothing makes me a modern girl" emphasizes her disillusionment and the emptiness of societal expectations.
The second verse delves deeper into the singer's struggles and self-destructive tendencies. The references to shaking hands and breaking mirrors imply a sense of anxiety and self-sabotage. The line "Give me heroism, give me what is mine" expresses a longing for empowerment and authenticity, suggesting that she seeks validation within herself rather than from external sources.
The chorus "Yeah, that's me you've seen, There dancing in denial and all the boys say 'You alright? You've been in there a while'" portrays a scenario where the singer is caught up in denial and hiding her true feelings. The lyrics suggest that she is yearning for someone to acknowledge her struggles and make her feel understood.
The final lines of the song show a yearning for connection and validation from someone else, but the singer recognizes that she has been deceived. The repeated plea for "heroism" and "what is mine" reflects a desire for personal agency and a recognition of one's own worth.
Overall, "Girlhood" is a poignant exploration of self-acceptance, personal struggles, and the pressure to conform to societal expectations. It delves into the complex emotions and yearnings of a young woman seeking validation and recognition in a world that often tries to define her.
