Now or Never
The Prize Fight Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Put yourself in the moment:
She's waiting for you to tell her how you feel.
All you need is a signal before you put yourself at risk to fail.
Draw breath in real slow.
Here's your only chance, so please don't choke!
And if it's now or never then collect your thoughts.
It's time to make your move.
What are you waiting for?

There's only one way for you to know for sure,
But you're breathing harder than you ever have before.
This situation begs to tear at your heart,
But the ball's in your court.
So what are you waiting for?

There's a weight on my shoulders.
It's pulling at my body, bringing me down.
And then you look out the window,
But the comfort you seek is nowhere to be found.

We're sitting so close.
I can sense that she's still wanting more.
And in the first light of morning,
Would I wake and have the right to say
"I'm giving it all I have.
I'm pretty sure that's got to count for something.
So, ready or not, here I go!"?

There's only one way for you to know for sure,
But you're breathing harder than you ever have before.
This situation begs to tear at your heart,
But the ball's in your court.
So what are you waiting for?

It's not what you say that matters the most,
As long as she knows you care.
Throw out your pickup lines and be sincere.
You know you're running out of time.
The perfect moment exists to pass you by.
It's the sickest kind of joke in mind.
It only exists to haunt you if you're sharp.

It's a matter of treason.
My mind has now left my mouth to fend for itself.
Going through all the motions,
Anything to keep her signing out.

We're sitting so close.
I can sense that she's still wanting more.

If all I do is sit here,
I'm missing out on what could be the best relationship I've had.
And at this time there's nothing more important than saying this.
I guess I'm giving it all I have.
I'm pretty sure that's got to count for something...
That's got to count for something in the end.

Oh!
And no one leaves 'til I get this off my chest.
What are you waiting for?
There's only one way for you to know for sure,
But you're breathing harder than you ever have before.
This situation begs to tear at your heart,
But the ball's in your court.
So what are you waiting for?

If it's now or never,
Then what are you waiting for?

Overall Meaning

The Prize Fight's song "Now or Never" captures the tension and anxiety of confessing one's feelings to someone they care about. The lyrics encourage listeners to seize the moment and take a risk by being vulnerable and honest with their emotions. The song's opening lines "Put yourself in the moment/ She's waiting for you to tell her how you feel" suggest that the object of the singer's affection is waiting for a clear signal before pursuing a relationship. The chorus reinforces this urgency by asking "What are you waiting for?" and reminding the listener that time is running out.

The bridge of the song reflects on the physical and emotional weight that comes with indecision and hesitation. The singer describes a sense of isolation and a desperate search for comfort that cannot be found. However, the final verse shifts the focus from the singer's internal struggle to the person they are trying to connect with. The lyrics encourage sincerity and authenticity over rehearsed pick-up lines or calculated strategies. The final lines are a call to action, with the singer proclaiming "no one leaves 'til I get this off my chest" and pushing towards a resolution.

Overall, "Now or Never" is a relatable and encouraging anthem for anyone navigating the complexities of love and relationships. It acknowledges the fear and uncertainty that come with opening oneself up to another person while urging listeners to take the risk and "give it all" they have.

Dave Budness

I miss this group, and would love to know what they are doing now.

Eli Agloro

Never knew there was a vanilla version of this song. I like both but i like the energy in this one more

Dave Budness

This is the produced version I believe, sounds cleaned up.

Solace in Shelling

THIS version is sooo much better than the EMO version. Bob's vocals, the horns and the general "pop punk-ness" of this version make it stand out.

Dave Budness

All of there tunes rule minus their last disc.

Cartesian Brewing

@Dave Budness I think The Process EP is some solid emo. It has a commercialized sound without being overly commercial

Cartesian Brewing

I've got to say, first time hearing this in 2020 - I prefer the emo version. It's way more polished and emotional. The guitar riffs and structure of the 2006 version are much catchier.

Dave Budness

@Cartesian Brewing really now? Shocking! That's by far my least fav disc from them. I just can't get past that CD at all
