Road Trippin'
The Red Hot Chili Peppers Lyrics

Road trippin' with my two favorite allies
Fully loaded, we got snacks and supplies
It's time to leave this town, it's time to steal away
Let's go get lost anywhere in the U.S.A.
Let's go get lost, let's go get lost
Blue, you sit so pretty west of the one
Sparkle light with yellow icing, just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
These smiling eyes are just a mirror for

So much as come before those battles lost and won
This life is shining more forever in the sun
Now let us check our heads and let us check the surf
Staying high and dry's more trouble than it's worth in the sun

Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
These smiling eyes are just a mirror for

In Big Sur, we take some time to linger on
We three hunky dory's got our snake finger on
Now let us drink the stars, it's time to steal away
Let's go get lost right here in the U.S.A.
Let's go get lost, let's go get lost
Blue, you sit so pretty west of the one
Sparkle light with yellow icing, just a mirror for the sun

Just a mirror for the sun
Just a mirror for the sun
These smiling eyes are just a mirror for

These smiling eyes are just a mirror for
Your smiling eyes are just a mirror for

Overall Meaning

"Road Trippin'" is a song by the American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, which was released in 2000 as the fourth and final single from their seventh studio album, "Californication". The song's lyrics tell a story of three friends who are embarking on a road trip across America, leaving their familiar town behind to explore new territories. The first two lines introduce the main characters and set the scene for the adventure that awaits them: "Road trippin' with my two favorite allies / Fully loaded, we got snacks and supplies".

The following verses describe the journey itself, with the travelers losing themselves in the vastness of the U.S.A. and enjoying the natural beauty of places like Big Sur. The lyrics mention specific details of the scenery, such as the ocean and the sun, but also hint at a deeper meaning behind the trip, with lines like "So much has come before those battles lost and won / This life is shining more forever in the sun". The song ends with an acknowledgement of the bond between the travelers, their shared experiences and the memories they will keep: "Your smiling eyes are just a mirror for / These smiling eyes are just a mirror for".

Overall, "Road Trippin'" is a song about exploration, friendship, and the thrill of the open road. The lyrics use vivid imagery and metaphors to convey a sense of wonder and possibility, while also touching on themes of nostalgia and reflection. The song's acoustic sound and stripped-down arrangement contribute to its intimate, introspective feel.

Folks Lyric Meaning :

1. "...This song is about a trip Anthony Kiedis took in rural California with John Frusciante and Flea: "Road Trippin with my two favorite allies." This trip consolidated their friendship in this new phase of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The song reflects a more mature Kiedis, who wrote about this friendship triangle in "Under The Bridge" when he felt left out."

2. "... like the line "these smiling eyes are just a mirror for [the sun]"

it's an alternate way of looking at the value we place on ourselves as individuals. We look out from our eyes and see the world as though we were the center of it, and as though the world revolves around us. We are the main character in the story. But in this, our eyes are so much more insignificant. Simply mirrors for the sun.

It's humbling- but not debasing. I think the intent is not to say that we are worthless, but to say that we are small. Juxtaposed with the rest of the song, we need to let go because we are small and not significant, and must make the most of what we have. For them, it is hitting the surf. For another, it might be devotion to ones family, or religion, or the environment, or cooking if they love that- but do what is important to you, and remember your eyes are just a mirror for the sun."

3. "...to me this song means getting away with the people that mean most to you and it doesnt mater where you go, as long as the company is right your'e gonna have a good time and get away from your problem for a while"

Song Fact :
~ This is one of the few Red Hot Chili Peppers songs with no drums. Drummer Chad Smith appears only briefly at the end of the video, arriving in a boat

~ The Peppers used a Chamberlin Organ on this song to get the sort of orchestral sound. According to Anthony Kiedis and Chad Smith's interview on Music Express, the original intention was to get legendary Led Zeppelin musician John Paul Jones to arrange that part. They decided against it after seeing how much it would cost them.

That's true. A good drummer
knows when to play and when not. This song wouldn't be the same if there was drums in it

@EZal17

@@raiame9977 wonder how it’d sound if it were somewhat slower, but had percussion
