The Reindeer Section arose - according to Lightbody - out of a chance get-together of musicians at a Lou Barlow gig in Glasgow in 2001, at which Lightbody drunkenly laid down the challenge to others to "make an album together", to which everyone said "yeah yeah". Lightbody "went home and next day wrote the album" and later convinced Johnny Davies of Bright Star Recordings to fund a recording session and release the proposed album. The group met over three days of rehearsal and ten days of recording to produce the first album. The album, Y'All Get Scared Now, Ya Hear! was released with a mini tour, the first venue of which was Belfast's The Limelight venue.
A second album, Son of evil reindeer was released ten months after the critical acclaim of the first, with a slightly different line-up. The single, You Are My Joy appeared on US show, Grey's Anatomy, and on fourth season of US TV series Queer as Folk. The song Cartwheels appeared on "The Second Chance", an episode of The O.C.. The band's most recent gig was on 14 December 2002 at the Queen Margaret Union in Glasgow. The project has never officially split up, but from that time it has been considered in a hiatus.

although I can hardly wait.
I hear your voice, it feels like rain,
I've made my choice, I know.
I taste your skin, it melts and sings,
yes, we can win, I'm sure.
I'll see your heart like golden fire,
it leads me on for good.
I love the way I feel so calm
although I can hardly wait.
I hear your voice, it feels like rain,
I've made my choice, I know.
I taste your skin, it melts and sings,
yes, we can win, I'm sure.
I'll see your heart like golden fire,
it leads me on for good.
The Reindeer Section's song Grand Parade is a love song that expresses a sense of calm and anticipation while being in love. The singer is describing the positive emotions they experience while being with their lover. The first line, "I love the way I feel so calm, although I can hardly wait," expresses the sense of patience and serenity that the singer experiences while waiting for their lover. The second line, "I hear your voice, it feels like rain," has a dual meaning. Rain is often seen as cleansing and refreshing, and the singer feels that their lover's voice is bringing a sense of renewal to their life. It also has a sensual connotation, as the sound of rain can be very calming and peaceful.
In the third line, "I've made my choice, I know," the singer is stating that they have made a decision to be with their lover and are committed to this relationship. The fourth line, "I taste your skin, it melts and sings," is an intimate description of the physical attraction they have for their lover. The fifth line, "yes, we can win, I'm sure," gives a sense of optimism about the strength of their relationship, and how they will overcome any obstacles together. Finally, the last line, "I'll see your heart like golden fire, it leads me on for good," indicates the depth of the connections between the lovers. The singer sees their partner's heart as a source of light and inspiration, leading them towards a better future.
