Howard and Crisp met while in college in Wilmington, North Carolina. That fall, they moved to nearby Raleigh to form The Rosebuds. Merge Records discovered their demo in early 2003 and released Make Out as a full-length debut album that October.
The Rosebuds Unwind EP, an EP with six songs, was released in April 2005, followed by Birds Make Good Neighbors in September. Night of the Furies was released in April 2007 and "Life Like" in October 2008.
The Rosebuds will release their next album in the summer of 2011 on Merge Records.
Limitless Arms
The Rosebuds Lyrics

Buried in yarn, carry it in a jar for a light
And I feel I'm reaching out for the last time
And I feel I'm reaching out for the last time
Color in sounds, worn-out maps and travel phones
Feed it to birds, try and be there on my own
And I feel I'm reaching out for the last time
And I feel I'm reaching out for the last time
And I feel I'm reaching out for the last time
But I feel I'm reaching out like a child
But I feel I'm reaching out for the last time
And I feel I'm reaching out for the last time
In a field
The Rosebuds's song Limitless Arms is a poetic reflection on the burdens of life and the desire to break free from them. The opening line, "I've carried too much, limitless arms hold tight," conveys a sense of heaviness and exhaustion. The image of "limitless arms" suggests that despite feeling overwhelmed, the singer is still trying to hold on and carry everything they can.
The next line, "Buried in yarn, carry it in a jar for a light," is a metaphorical image that can be interpreted in multiple ways. It could represent the singer's attempt to hold onto something that brings them comfort or light, despite being buried under other things. Alternatively, it could be an allusion to the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, where Theseus uses a ball of yarn to guide him through the labyrinth. In this interpretation, the "jar for a light" represents a source of hope or guidance that the singer is trying to hold onto.
The repeated refrain "And I feel I'm reaching out for the last time" adds a sense of urgency to the song. It's unclear whether the singer is reaching out for help or trying to break free from their burdens, but either way, they seem to be at a breaking point. The final lines, "But I feel I'm reaching out like a child / And I feel I'm reaching out for the last time / In a field" suggest a desire for simplicity and a return to innocence. The image of a field evokes a sense of openness and freedom, and the comparison to a child suggests a longing for a time before the weight of adult responsibilities took over.
