Signed to the Swan record label by producer Jerry Ross, the trio's first single releases were on that imprint. Their first single release was entitled 'Where Is Johnny Now?' b/w 'Your True Love'.
Their follow up song was entitled 'Who Do You Love?', a song that made the pop charts, peaking at number 25 in 1964. Further singles, 'I Found Out Too Late' and 'Gotta Be More Than Friends' were less successful. Moving to ABC later in the Sixties, they failed to return to the charts. At ABC however they released the popular song 'Let's Break Up For A While'.
During their early career, the group were associated with Kenny Gamble, who arranged their vocals on the groups debut album release, 'Who Do You Love'.
Their songs proved to be highly popular, at a later date, on the Northern Soul scene, including 'Gotta Have Your Love' (number 33 on the R & B charts in 1965 and featuring background vocals by Valerie Simpson, Nick Ashford, and Melba Moore), 'Evil One', 'Gonna Be a Big Thing', and 'Slow Fizz' (1966). The latter song ended their contract with ABC and the group went their seperate ways.

And leave the one I love alone
I said now I got mine you better get yours
And leave the one I love alone
Well I've been happy for such a long time
Me and my baby we were doing fine fine fine fine
But then you came along you tried to do me wrong
Now I got mine you better get yours
And leave the one I love alone
Yeah you had your chance you walked out on him before
Now can't you get it through your silly little head
That he doesn't want you Anymore
Well now one more time can you get it through your mind
That he doesn't want you anymore
Now I got mine you better get yours
And leave the one I love a-
And leave the one I love a-
And leave the one I love alone
Well you tried everything to lure him away
But he loves me now and that's the way it's it's going to stay
Well now one more time can you get it through your mind
You'll get no satisfaction anymore
Now I got mine you better get yours
And leave the one I love alone
You better leave him alone yeah Yeah
And leave the one i love alone Yeah
Now I got mine you better get yours
And leave the one I love alone
The Sapphires' song "I've Got Mine, You Better Get Yours" is a classic R&B break-up song, in which the singer tells their romantic rival to stay away from their lover. The lyrics suggest that the singer has been in a happy and committed relationship for a long time, but a third person, the person addressed in the song, has been attempting to interfere, attempting to seduce the singer's lover or break the relationship in some way. The singer warns the person to back off, asserting that they have already won the lover's heart, and the rival should move on and find someone else to be with.
The song's lyrics are confrontational, with the singer's voice coming across as assertive and determined. The use of repetition, in phrases like "now I got mine you better get yours" and "leave the one I love alone," adds to the song's overall intensity. The impassioned vocals of the Sapphires further drive home the song's message, leaving no doubt that the singer is fully in control of the situation and will not be swayed by any outside influence. Overall, the song is a powerful statement about love, loyalty, and the power dynamics of romantic relationships.
