"From the prairie city of Saskatoon, Canada come the Sheepdogs, 4 young gentlemen who revel in the joy of rock n roll so wholeheartedly, it's downright contagious. Sporting the long-haired looks of their musical forefathers, the lads make the most of their 2 guitars, bass and drums combo. Soulful vocalizations, everybody harmonizing, old-school guitar chops winding, riffing and chiming, and a grooving rhythm section that keeps it all going. Having already cemented their reputation as dynamic performers in their hometown, the Sheepdogs now turn their attention to spreading their affection for rock n roll cross-country. They have spent the last year covering the great white north, playing from Vancouver island to Montreal. They have played festivals, headlined a bill during 2007's Junofest, opened for the likes of Matt Mays and el Torpedo, and performed before thousands at 2006's Saskatoon Centennial Celebration. In January 2007 they released their debut LP Trying to Grow, a collection of guitar-driven originals that recall classic rockers like the Stones, CCR, and the Kinks. The album's title-track was featured in a province-wide campaign in their native Saskatchewan. Early 2008 has already seen the completion of their follow-up album, which mixes elements of southern rock and moody soul with gleeful straight-forward rockers. Once again, the boys are hitting the road, spreading their rock n roll revival to the rest of Canada."

I've Got a Hole Where My Heart Should Be
The Sheepdogs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm a part time lover and an all around guy
You got to know
I got the late night magic and perpetual high
It's alright
I got to keep on moving so I never run dry
You wanna go
Said if you dig me, baby, won't you give it a try?
But if the mood ain't exactly right
I got to spread my wings and take flight
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be, yeah
Uptight
Hard luck woman meets an over zealous guy
It's alright
Said if you dig me, baby, won't you give it a try?
Come on
I got my late night fever and perpetual high
You wanna go
I need to keep on moving so I never run dry
But you don't have to tell me twice
'Cause I don't take my own advice
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be, yeah
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole
I got a hole
I got a hole where my heart should be
I got a hole where my heart should be, yeah
"I've Got a Hole Where My Heart Should Be" is a rock and roll song performed by Canadian band The Sheepdogs. The song's verses describe the singer as a "part-time lover" and "all-around guy" who has a "late night magic and perpetual high." The chorus repeats the central theme of the song, which is the singer's recognition that he has a hole where his heart should be. The lyrics suggest that he has become numb to feelings of love and is unable to fully connect with others emotionally. He acknowledges that he needs to keep moving and indulging in his vices to avoid facing his lack of authentic emotional depth, but ultimately recognizes that this lifestyle is not fulfilling.
One possible interpretation of the song's lyrics is that they describe a person who is struggling with some form of addiction, whether it be drugs, alcohol, or love itself. The repetitive refrain of "I've got a hole where my heart should be" suggests a sense of emptiness or emotional numbness that may be related to habitual self-destructive behaviors. The description of the singer as a "part-time lover" and "perpetual high" suggest that they are caught in a cycle of short-term relationships and temporary highs that ultimately leave them feeling unfulfilled and disconnected from others.
Another potential interpretation of the song is that it grapples with the idea of authenticity and genuine emotional connection. The singer recognizes that they have a "late night magic," but also acknowledges that this magic may be hollow or superficial. The repeated references to a "hole where my heart should be" suggest that the singer may feel like they are not able to fully give or receive love in a meaningful way. Ultimately, the song suggests that the singer is aware of their emotional limitations and is struggling to find a way to bridge the gap between their current state and a more authentic, fulfilling way of life.
