A more disturbing word
Holdin' out for long
I never felt so quite disturbed.
I get up in the morning now, I don't know
Waiting for the evening now, I don't know
Been lookin' for whats comin' now, I don't know
Lookin' back at me
There's more than mystery
Letters and pages of
Ancient history, yeah.
I get up in the morning now, I don't know
I've been waiting for the evening now, I don't know
I've been lookin' for whats comin' now, I don't know
Would somebody please, help me.
I don't know, help me.
I don't know, I don't know, help me.
I don't know, help me.
I don't know, I don't know, help me.
I don't know, help me.
I don't know, I don't know, help me.
The Sheepdogs' song "I Don't Know" is a ballad that speaks to the feeling of overwhelming uncertainty, unease, and confusion. The opening verse sets the tone for the rest of the song, with the singer expressing his discomfort at the "disturbing word" that he has heard, and the sense that he has been "holding out for long" without finding any resolution or understanding. This sense of being in limbo, waiting for something to happen but not knowing what that something is, is further emphasized in the chorus, where the singer repeatedly expresses his confusion and begs for someone to help him.
The second verse of the song continues the theme of uncertainty, only this time it is framed in terms of looking into the past rather than the present. The singer can see "more than mystery" when he looks back at himself, but the knowledge he gains from studying "letters and pages of ancient history" does not provide any comfort or clarity. Instead, he is left feeling even more lost and disoriented than before. This sense of being adrift is reinforced by the repetition of the chorus, which serves to underscore the singer's plea for guidance.
Overall, "I Don't Know" is a song that captures the feeling of being stuck in a state of perpetual uncertainty, unable to move forward or make sense of one's surroundings. The simple yet powerful lyrics and melody make it a haunting and introspective track that is sure to resonate with anyone who has ever struggled with feelings of confusion and aimlessness.
