Love Is in the Air
The Shivers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love doesn't know
That there's a pretty good chance you're going to go.
Love doesn't see
You're standing over me.
Love has no eyes,
No tears to cry,
And love doesn't understand goodbyes.
Love doesn't care
If you prance around in your underwear
In your underwear
You're in your underwear.
In your underwear...

Love knows no bounds,
And, honey, either left or right from time to time.
Love's in the air!
Even if you're not there.
Love doesn't try
Cause love doesn't have to try.
Love doesn't die...
Love doesn't have to die.
It doesn't have to die.
It doesn't have to die.
Doesn't have to die.
Love is in the air
Love is in the air
Love is in the air
Love is in the air
Love is in the air
Love is in the air

Oh, love me, love me, love me, love me.
If you don't, somebody else will.
Darlin', if you won't, somebody else will.
If you don't, somebody else will.
Oh, love me, love me, love me, love me.
If you don't, somebody else will.
Darlin', if you won't, somebody else will.

If you don't, somebody else will.
Oh, love me, love me, love me, love... me

Overall Meaning

The Shivers' Love Is In the Air is a song that speaks about the boundless nature of love. The opening lyrics 'Love doesn't know that there's a pretty good chance you're going to go' suggest that love is not hindered or limited by the possibility of separation. In fact, love is said to be without eyes or tears to cry, thereby implying that it transcends the limitations of the physical world. Love is an intangible force that is all around us, whether or not we can see it, feel it or touch it. The lyrics 'Love doesn't care if you prance around in your underwear' hammers home the point that love is not judgmental or concerned with superficialities.

The chorus 'Love is in the air' reinforces the point made earlier and suggests that love is everywhere, even if we cannot see it. The line 'Even if you're not there' signals to the listener that love is not dependent on one particular person or thing, but is all-pervading. The last few lines 'Oh love me, love me, love me, love me. If you don't, somebody else will' suggest that the songwriter is urging someone to love them. They are saying that if the person does not love them, someone else will, and thereby implying that love is not something that can be controlled or limited.
