My uncle, Joe Rock, was The Skyliners' first manager. He wrote many of the songs with the lead singer, Jimmy Beaumont. My understanding of this song is that Uncle Joe wrote the lyrics to this song on the way home after a breakup with his girlfriend. Being born in the 1950's, my sisters, brothers, cousins were all young kids at the time, but the members of this group were just young adults. All were sweet and kind while in ours and our grandparents' home. We girls all wanted to be and sing like Janet (Vogel). So many memories, including the pride while watching them on American Bandstand. Great song nonetheless. Who hasn't been able to relate to it at some point in time?

This gets my vote as greatest Doo-Wop song ever. Jimmy Beaumont is amazing and Janet Vogel’s high C at the finish seals the deal. Our guys used to meet at a coffee shop in ‘59 and played this so often on the juke box that the owner had to call for a new one every week or ten days. I have since learned that tears can be the result of shear beauty and essence. This piece is just such an item. It is one awesome track. While memories can be the result of emotionality, now and again there comes along a song that just knocks your socks off and we cry due too the awareness of this greatness before us. I used to wonder at these tears, wondering what pains were being repressed, then as tears went by and with a little understanding, I just realized ... damn! I don't need memorable pains or sorrows associated with this song ... it is just freakin awesome.

i grew up in the 90's. The Golden Era of hip hop. But my love for music has allowed me to search deep through the ages and discover genres and classics that people now a days will never hear. And wow these oldies do give me a tingly, goosebumps feeling, absolutely wonderful music, you can feel the passion in each song. I grew up in the 50-60's in central Illinois and remember this song being played around the clock on the big 50000 Watt AM clear channel stations around the country [WABC New York City WLS Chicago, KDKA Pittsburg, KOMA Oklahoma City] and also on all the local and regional AM Stations. My parents were teens in the 50's and I grew up listening to all this music ever since I was a little boy in the early 70's. It's a magnificent, timeless song. When Janet's voice kicks in towards the end to sing that final chorus it's just beautiful. I believe the only member of the group who is still alive is Jackie Taylor (bottom row in the middle).
