Yeah, I went to visit my friend Shannon & her family the other day. Came in and after the hellos and hugs were over 5 minutes later, I felt like I was sitting in a room by myself. All five members of the family at all ages were sitting in the room with me, but every last one of them were buried in they’re phones. And that’s how it stayed until I left. That’s when it hit me just bad people are addicted to they’re phones. After that I started noticing how people everywhere are walking around like zombies completely submerged in they’re phones. Music, jogging, favorite foods...all established and reinforced by the reward system in the brain with demanding neurotransmitters. Choose a healthy addiction and substitute-otherwise cold, clean miserable monotony will be daily experience.

I’m finding out that negative addictions like drinking, smoking, drugs which take from you are like debts. Whenever you engage in that pleasure, you’re increasing your debt to these activities. In order to overcome the addiction you have to pay these debts through the uncomfortable moments you experience when you give them up. But once you’ve paid the debt, you can begin saving up in your own emotional bank account and over time will distance yourself from the negative experience and have more and more positive. It’s possible and what’s on the other side of it can be so much better. It’s worth giving it all up for something better. 🙏

I use my habit of becoming addicted to my advantage in the financial world where I invest and make a lot of money. When I was addicted to Bodybuilding I was just wasting money, so why not just use it for a better purpose instead? I do try very hard to get a normal job though and keep the investments on the side. Also looking for a solid partner in my life. Then I'm all set and have decent balance :)

I was in a rut for years. Tired. No motivation. I always thought something would fall in my lap, but I came to realize you gotta be your own motivation. I quit smoking weed all day everyday, cut down on drinking, started light exercise, and drastically improved my diet. Now I have the energy to do shit, and when I do sit down with a drink or play video games, I feel like I earned that time, and its balanced. Start with something small and work on that. Then go to another thing..

@Noah Robson I honestly don't know, Noah. I think my major flaw was depression, which I fight everyday. Sometimes it wins. But most of the time it doesn't. I've grown accustomed to it since I've been regularly depressed since maybe 13. I have a great support network, and feel like if I let them down, I feel even worse than a regular depression day. So I suppose I technically choose the easy road, albiet its not exactly easy.

Proud of you for not drinking man. My father passed when I was 13, drank a 30 pack of natural light or coors light until he passed out and smoke cigarettes which go hand and hand. Eventually got a little better as far as we know, he worked with a business towards the end that went out of state all over the country selling cars at events. Made really good money but was never home. Ended up having a heart attack on his way home one night from the state he was working in that week. Just got done at an after schools honors choir, then went from there to basketball tryouts, made the 7th grade basketball team that night, went home to find a bunch of people at my house and an ambulance. My step mom used to have seizures all the time so that's what came to mind when I got home. I ran in to help her because I knew what to do. But she was already up on the couch crying. That's when I dropped everything mentally and asked "what happened to dad". Just went into shock for hours. Didn't cry. Called my pastor and he came over right away to talk to me and pray together. Meant a lot to me. Lost my father real young to alcohol.. was a great father though. Loved me and my brother more than his own life. Gave us great advice, even when he was drunk. Showed us right from wrong.. maybe in the wrong way but he did. Played basketball and baseball with me so I could practice. Came to my games and practices. Came to my choir concerts. Called me on the phone every 5min just to ask the same questions "what are you doing" "how are you doing" .. lol the same thing I was doing the last time you called "grandma"... he used to get a good laugh when I'd call him that. It was kind of annoying back then, I was trying to hangout with my friends or play video games but now I miss it. Called me his champ and just knew I was destined to have a great life, believed in me and drove me to be a better me and make him proud. Still aiming higher everyday just for him. 😭😭😭❤❤

I wasted my twenties due to a strange kind of addiction to comfort/self sabotage due to fear from social anxiety. Thirties rolled around and WHAM! a decade's worth of inactivity slams into my face all at once and depression sets in. Slowly climbing my way out of the decade deep hole I dug for myself. I came across this video and it made me realize that I have been drinking alot lately and doing coke and I have noticed that I do not have fun while doing so. I can not trace the root of my issues but when he said “the pressure of making your dreams reality” really hit me because I honestly fear to be that man that saves up money all year in order to blow it all on a one week cruise ship. For so long we are looking at addictioons as purely the substance as the root of all evil, but is really our human tendency, some more inclined than others, to numb and check out of reality and their emotions and whatever they are going through. Man I can relate to all this it's kinda sad. I been playing music all my life always wanted to go somewhere with it. Slowly drinking and drugs took effect and it became more about that and the music became secondary. Plus working 12 hour shifts all the time and trying to fit it all in. And the stress of trying to do all that and keep your addictions in check I understand why people go off the rails. I went off myself for awhile. I'm 28 now and I definitely feel things slipping away.

Guys these days have multiple addictions without even realising it:
Youtube addiction, Netflix/Anime addiction, Gaming addiction, Porn addiction(this is probably the worst one you can EVER have!), Unhealthy food addiction(usually goes with binge watching youtube and netflix etc.) and Phone addiction.

All of these addictions sneak up on you without you knowing. You probably dont even realise that these are actually legitemate addictions. When people call on addictions they usually refer to alcohol or drugs, but you can be addicted to anything. Please limit the time of being able to use such addicting activities, or save them as a reward after a hard day of work. These kinds of addictions are like traps that are really tough to get out of. Depression is the result of a lack of discipline. You need order in your life!

Wild man, had severe anxiety and lost my way in high school but managed to graduate. But during that time got hooked on opioids. 22 now and a year sober but with a lot of help. I think it's important to realize that addictions come in many forms. We really have those "staple" addictions people discuss like alcohol and drugs, but what about electronics, social media, sex/porn, many other things can equally effect your life in detrimental ways. I think understand yourself as well as listening to others with similar issues is vital in helping cope with whatever addiction you personally are struggling with. Also, don't be afraid to reach out by thinking no one struggles with what you struggle with. Everyone is weird in their own way has their own issues, we are human! I've worked construction pretty much my entire life and these guys are spot on when they describe alot of the average worker on a construction site I was lucky enough that by the time I got out of high school I had already experimented enough with party scene that by the time I was in my mid twenties I had it out of my system and decided to go all in on my decision to work construction I was lucky enough to have had the opportunity to work with some really talented people in my field I worked a shit load of overtime absorbed every piece of knowledge these talented people would throw my way now I'm 35 I'm a project manager for my company I own multiple properties and I enjoy a very comfy existence in a world that's not very easy to succeed in and honestly I owe alot of it to the fact I partied my ass off in high school and got it out of my system early I watched alot of people that I graduated with who didn't party at the time struggle with the party scene when they went to college and end up fucking their lives up worst because they where in their mid twenties trying shit for the first time and not knowing how to handle it

Man when I crawled out of that creator of addition, there was no way I was going back in. Snorting one gram of meth in one sitting, drinking the cheapest vodka until I puked out blood, I lost my shit. Its been over two years since I last did anything, and it feels amazing to have money in my pocket, to be able to stand in
front of the mirror and not to feel that shame or guilt fucking with me. I mean, I do have my days when I feel like shit, but that's life. Just because shit doesn't work out doesn't mean I should throw it all away, fuck that static. I've worked too fucking hard to get where I am today, and I will put up a fight to remain as I am today.

I've started using my addictive personality as a strength, and no longer let it drag me down as a weakness. Basically got addicted to healthy living having spent ten years on softdrugs, fast food and alcohol. I think the only way to really control addiction (you never eliminate it, its always there, lurking) its to have something to look forward to that directly conflicts with it, but you have to really want it, if you dont, theres just no way to win, its a fight against your brain and it knows everything about you, all the tricks to persuade you and the exact times when you're vulnerable.

It's so hard to watch loved ones struggle through addiction and work so hard to build up to a stable life again just to relapse. 2+ years clean from the evil I was succumbing too. The occasional drink is appealing but I feel great. Now to quit smoking!

Got hooked to hard drugs in my teens, then was in a crash and got addicted to opiate painkillers, went to rehab, on my reduction program now, approaching the end, nearly fully weaned off after 10 years, and I feel blessed, wish me luck, and wishing the best for anyone going through any form of addiction, you can get through it! I promise you.

Damn this video made me feel good about myself. I smoke weed constantly all day everyday. But I keep my shit together, I own a house, no mortgage, and have solar power. I repurpose anything useful, I cut and sell firewood which covers my food and gas as well as a fairly comfortable lifestyle. I wake up when I want and answer to no body, on top of that I have healthy relationships with everyone in my life, including X gfs. I think a lack of ambition is a lot of people's problem. Maybe if everyone just did what they wanted rather than what they think the world expects of them they could be a lot happier? You're all worthy of happiness

I agree with that guy on the coke addiction thing. I’d buy 8 balls with my friends nearly everyday just doing coke and drinking every day staying up til 3am or not sleeping at all. Never got hooked on it but everyone else except my best friend was. I didn’t understand how it was addicting it was almost just like a hobby because it went along with our activities. When I stopped I felt better but never had an urge to go back or anything. I’m naturally hyper so I guess that helps

I remember watching this drunk as fuck addicted to opiates and crying, knowing I was gonna die and that I was wasting my life. I broke down and decided to get help, checked myself into a hospital and got proper meds to detox ( you can die from alcohol withdrawal) then checked into an intensive outpatient rehab program, it changed my life honestly. I have substance abuse disorder, an actual disease, which means I can get addicted to any thing, I’ve tried switching to only weed and it ALWAYS leads me back to my drug of choice which is alcohol. I can proudly say that I am 77 days sober today and couldn’t have done it without rehab and the twelve steps. I am actually outside of AA meeting right now about to head in, have a good day everybody

@Alex It's more, once you start, even if you aren't sure what to write or do, a muse will appear. So you don't have to wait for the muse before you get to work, get to work and the muse will appear.
If you don't have fun, then maybe it's not for you. But if not doing the creative thing would fill you with regret, do it. If it's fear that holds you back, just get to it and it will be fun. If it's not fear holding you back, and you just genuinely don't like whatever you are trying to do that much, let it go and find something you enjoy more.
Also, his main idea in the book is basically not letting any fears get in the way of getting of writing. Your possible fear could be that if you treat it seriously you won't have fun, which makes sense. The question is if it's only fun when you have inspiration how often will the inspiration be? And do you always need inspiration before you start writing? Or could you sit down, maybe entertain an idea, let's say it sounds bad, well delete it, but maybe it gets you the idea for something else, and bam, you're inspired to go down a new path. I recommend you look up charles bukowksi's "don't try". Similiar ideas that are helpful for writers. I hope this helps.

Joe Rogan has a social skill we should all develop as mindful intellectuals. He manages to consider ridiculously outlandish things that very well may be true, without buying in or ruining his credibility by assigning conviction to it. Like he can have a guest come to him and say the earth is flat, or the moon landing was fake, and he's going to listen, even let his mind be blown by the mysteries of the issues, without letting you *be right*. It lets him talk about anything and avoid the flak either the left or the right media would throw at him if he took to these issues with a different attitude. He's a smart cookie.

I’m the same as the guy in the cap. I’ve taken Coke a bunch of times when I’m out with my mates. Had a blast. But never got hooked. I could go on without even thinking about it. Only ever when I went out for a good night which was rare cause I have wife and kids. I can see why if you didn’t have responsibilities that you can fall into that trap of constant partying and getting hooked. I’ve felt it.

Best way to live life is find a few physical addictions. Personally I went with alcohol, nicotine, xanax, and kratom. I get to go to bed every night oblivious to my life and my problems. Its bliss. I just have to make it to 8:00 pm every night and I can forget about everything. Life is beautiful. Addiction is bliss.

I haver never had an addiction... But I had the benefit of watching my younger brother go through massive addiction of any type drug you can name. He is in prison how until he is 67 he has been in 20 years and has 23 more to go. Found out while he was in for him it wasn't an addiction he is a major depressive and when the state would take him off his meds that this was simply his hobby. The shrink said manics either kill themselves or get a hobby

When life kicked me in the sack for eight years straight, I got into alcohol to help vent and try to talk to someone in 2018. I drank two six-packs and four forties every single day. I developed alcohol anxiety when trying to quit last year, and have terrible withdrawals. Now, in 2020, I'm going back to college, and down to 4 beers, a night eventually getting to 0. Long story short, drugs and alcohol aren't worth being in your life. It's a waste of time, money, and shortens your life. I'm 24 years old, and happy I figured my shit out on time. I hope whoever is going through the same battle, you overcome and win.
