The band currently consists of Craig Wellington (vocals/guitar), Stuart Jones (guitar) and Matthew Gwilt (drums). Three likely lads from Shrewsbury who came together in Leeds. Together, they form the rhythm colossus known as The Sunshine Underground.
The Sunshine Underground sold out London and Leeds venues on their first headline tour, following their successful support slots for LCD Soundsystem and local rave-ups, which earned the group the Live Band of the Year Award at the Independent Leeds Music Awards for 2005.
Their debut album Raise the Alarm, was released on August 28th 2006, after playing Carling Stage sets at both Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Put 'em back together again
We'll never let you down
We've always been your friends
This is black and white
When you gonna colour it in
Be there until the end
We've always been your friends
But then it's nothing in particular now
Stop making sense, Again
We are the future now
We call upon your humble opinions tonight
Are you there? Are you there?
My friend
I call upon your humble opinions tonight
We're gonna do your aim (?)
Forget about the trouble your in
Cos are you lost, are you found my friend
Forget about the trouble your in
We've always been your friends
Your friends
But then it's nothing in particular now
Stop making sense, again
You know your hands are tied
But are you gonna do the right thing?
Well come in
Because it's nothing in particular now
Stop making sense, Again
We are the future now
Your Friends
Your Friends
But it's nothing in particular now
Stop making sense, again
I know your hands are tied
But are you gonna do the right thing?
Well come in
Because it's nothing in particular now
Stop making sense, Again
We are the future now

The Sunshine Underground's "We've Always Been Your Friends" seems to be a message of hope and encouragement to someone going through a rough patch or heartbreak. The song's opening lines, "We'll mend your broken hearts, put 'em back together again," speak to this theme. The singer then assures the listener that they will never let them down and that they've always been their friends. The lyrics are straightforward and simple, but they illustrate the idea that the people in our lives can be a source of strength and support when we need it most.
The chorus is particularly catchy and reinforces the song's optimistic message: "We've always been your friends, your friends, but then it's nothing in particular now, stop making sense again." The repetition of the phrase "your friends" not only emphasizes the closeness of this relationship but also serves as a reminder that our friends are there for us even when nothing significant is happening.
The second half of the song seems to be a call to action, with lines like "we are the future now" and "are you gonna do the right thing?" suggesting that the listener needs to take control of their life and make decisions that will positively impact their future. Overall, "We've Always Been Your Friends" is an uplifting song that reminds us of the power of friendship and the importance of perseverance in times of adversity.
