Sea of Love
The Twilights Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Come with me, my love
To the sea, the sea of love
I want to tell you how much I love you

Do you remember when we met?
That's the day I knew you were my pet
I want to tell you how much I love you
Come with me to the sea
Oh, love

Do you remember when we met?
That's the day I knew you were my pet
I want to tell you how much I love you

Come with me to the sea
Oh, love

Do you remember when we met?

That's the day I knew you were my pet
I want to tell you how much I love you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Twilights' song "Sea of Love" express a deep and romantic sentiment between two individuals in love. The first line, "Come with me, my love," invites the listener's loved one to join them on a journey, metaphorically represented by the "sea of love." This sea symbolizes a realm of intense emotions and connections, where the depths of their love can be fully explored and expressed.

The singer then reminisces about the day they first met, emphasizing its significance by mentioning, "That's the day I knew you were my pet." The term "pet" here is not meant literally, but rather as an endearing term of affection, reflecting the strong bond and closeness between the two.

The repetition of the phrase, "I want to tell you how much I love you," reinforces the urgency and intensity of the singer's emotions. It highlights their desire to communicate the depth of their love, as if words alone cannot fully capture the magnitude of their feelings.

The plea to come with them to the sea of love is an invitation for their loved one to fully immerse themselves in the shared experience of love, to explore the depths of their connection, and to reciprocate the same intensity of emotion. Overall, the lyrics of "Sea of Love" depict a passionate expression of love and a longing to deepen the bond between two individuals.

I was in junior high when this song came out. Dated a girl when I was home on leave from the Army in 1966, 25 years later we met again, and we had this song played as our wedding dance 27 years ago.

Me & my ex-wife loved this song. We split up. I still love this song. Forever, probably.

Old times, good times, good music, good lyrics, not today's garbage. Lovely song, nothing but the original of Phil Phillips

I was born in 85 but my dad was born in 42. This was one of his favorite songs and he’d play it in the car everywhere we went. It quickly became one of my favorites as well. He passed away less than a year ago from cancer but listening to all our 1950s/1960s riding jams makes me feel close to him. Miss you daddy.

Music does do that to ya. A song can bring us to the first time we heard it. This song will be added to my performing song list of early rock n roll.
