The Vice Lyrics

Some fall by the wayside uninvited to the feast
Welcome home the vulture men to pick the bodies clean
Cover up and sanitise the cruel and the obscene
But you can't take it with you
Or pay god to forgive you
You can't buy back the dead and gone
Or pay god to forgive you
The war machine still rumbles on
Human vermin fighting over rotting meat
Top dogs in designer clothes delight in their deceit
Make god in your likeness, stifle intellect
Arrogance is worshipped in the gutter press
Carve up other countries with your butchers knife
Who cares when the profit justifies the price?
but you can't take it with you
Or pay god to forgive you
You can't buy back the dead and gone
Enough's never enough
Absolute power will corrupt
The war machine still rumbles on
The Vice's song Back To You is a scathing critique of the powers that be and their callous treatment of the masses. The opening lyric Marketing new miracles to keep us off the streets is a nod to the way in which the government and corporations spend billions on advertising, making promises of a better life or a better version of oneself, while leaving many in poverty or struggling to make ends meet. The song argues against their luxurious lifestyles, as referenced in Top dogs in designer clothes delight in their deceit, and calls them out as vultures who prey on the less fortunate, as suggested by the line Welcome home the vulture men to pick the bodies clean.
Lyricist Alex Boezeman illustrates how the rich and powerful control the media and therefore what opinions are held, which he describes in the line Make god in your likeness, stifle intellect / Arrogance is worshipped in the gutter press. Meanwhile, the chorus reminds listeners that money, power and status mean nothing in the face of death or judgement by a higher power: but you can't take it with you / Or pay god to forgive you / You can't buy back the dead and gone. However, the song concludes that the war machine still rumbles on, with the ironic line Absolute power will corrupt, highlighting how the ruling classes will continue to misuse their power for their own gain at the expense of those who live in poverty.

@Jurassic Josh Lol that assumption is very funny because i'm a muslim and i grew up in islamic school when i was in elementary school so it's fair to say i know what i'm talking about more than you.
Look man, i'm just gonna be straight up saying that your generalization is trash and very du.mb, indicating a big ignorance. What people like you need to know is nowadays nationality comes first before religion. Somali represent Somalia, while Afghans represent Afghanistan. Somalia is sadly a poor hellhole country with a government that couldn't defend it's sovereignty (almost nonexistent), hence why it's no wonder that most of them resort to illegal stuff to put food on the table. Somalia is also very far from Afghanistan if you look at the map, way across Arabian Peninsula, ±3,980 km which is very, very far away. It's like looking at what Egypt people do and assuming Turkmenistan also the same, or to put into perspective it's like as far as France from Azerbaijan. Do you really naively think, groups of people that is very far away from each other and doesn't even share a border, doesn't have any differences in culture and mindset despite both of them sharing the same religion?
Malaysia, despite being Islam as a state religion, is currently fed up with Rohingya refugees despite that in majority they're also muslims. Why? because they cause troubles for Malaysians. See? just because they're muslims and i'm a muslim, that doesn't guarantee that we're belong to the same group.
Back to the original case, they're just literal kids respecting elders. Somehow, you could see that those kids had malicious intents. If that's the case, anything those kids do will never be right in your perspective, no matter how kind they behave you'll see them as "evils that is faking themselves from true selves" which is a very sick and unhealthy perspective. I would bet that if they somehow become ex-muslims, in your perspective they magically become good, "normal" people and clear from your prejudice.
Edit: grammar

I am an Army Vet, retired 32 years, four combat tours, OIFx1(101st ABN Div), OEFx3 (82nd ABN and 101st ABN), last tour was 2013...I use to get into heated arguments with people who were anti-muslim back home. My own Father in law and I got so bad that we didn't talk for a long time.
I recalled two incidents, Once I was near Fallujah Iraq, we were bogged down in a day long fight. An Iraqi man with a platter of chai, and food under fire made his way to us to give us something to eat and drink. He asked for nothing in return, it was his way of thanking us. And yes, he was Muslim.
Next, my tour on the Konar valley out of Jbad, had an interpreter who probably saved my butt twice and several members of our unit way more times than we could save his. He risked death not only to himself but to his entire family.
Point I want to make, the Iraqi or Afghani persons who have migrated recently(last decade or so) have EARNED the right to be Americans and have sacrificed a lot more for this country than most people. Just had to throw that out there.
Also, my interpreter In AFG now lives in Fair fax, Va area, came here with $80 and now has a job earning over $85K a year...he doesn't complain about a system that oppresses him or how the system is stacked against him.. I wish more Americans actually appreciated more what they have here....just sayin...
Update APR 2019-All the "thank you for your service".....I loved what I did, thank you for allowing me to use your tax dollars for my total enjoyment and ability to cool and fun things for 32 years. It was like a roller coaster ride the whole time and I got paid doing it. There were times it did suck, felt pain, grief and sadness that will stay with me forever. Overall, still a very positive experience. Thank You...I would ask that you go do something for someone else, doesn't have to be a Vet...Just actually give a dam for someone else other than yourself or family....that is the military mindset...leave it better than you got it.

R.i.p. Badar. A real hero and a real human bean. According to the news story released about his death only 15 to 20 people showed up at the funeral. He was killed defusing an IED. The Taliban had rigged two IED with the second one rigged to explode if the first one was disarmed. Honour this man by not letting him be forgotten. He lived up to his namesake which in pashto means "the brave" or "the hero".

@CouchPotatoesTV The extremists of ANY religion don't want peace. Look to the extremists of your own country and see the destruction. It has nothing to do with the billions of Muslims who live in, and want, peace - nor any other religions or political people that are peaceful yet the most extreme of them cause chaos. Grow up and don't judge millions of people on the most extreme end of their group. It's small minded, bigoted and vapid.
