Hey DJ
The World's Famous Supreme Team Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you know who I am?
Good, neither do I
Got nothing to say
But if you pay me, I can play the fool
Go on believe, if it turns you on
Take what you need till your body is numb
Prostitution is revolution
You can hate me after you pay me
My submission is your addiction
So just get out while you can
Do you remember when
The only thing that mattered was
Taking time for the things you love?
But now you got to humor, all these fools
Go on believe, if it turns you on
Take what you need till your body is numb
Prostitution is revolution
You can hate me after you pay me
My submission is your addiction
So just get out while you can
If you need me, I'm your man
But you don't wanna see me mad
Oh no, we don't care
You're a pro and it's no surprise
Oh no, we don't care
Go on believe, if it turns you on
Take what you need till your body is numb
Prostitution is revolution
You can hate me after you pay me

My submission is your addiction
So just get out while you can

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The World's Famous Supreme Team's song "Hey DJ" speak to the power dynamic between DJs/performers and their audiences, as well as highlight the commodification of music and entertainment. The opening lines "Do you know who I am? Good, neither do I/Got nothing to say/But if you pay me, I can play the fool" sets the tone for this theme, suggesting that the DJ's identity is fluid and malleable as long as they are getting paid. The repetition of the line "Prostitution is revolution" further drives home this point, equating the DJ/performer role with a type of transactional sex work, with the performer providing pleasure in exchange for payment.

The lyrics also touch on the idea of escapism and how people turn to music and entertainment to numb their bodies and minds from the stresses of everyday life. Lines like "Take what you need till your body is numb" and "My submission is your addiction" speak to the ways in which audiences may become reliant on the DJ/performer to provide them with an escape from reality. However, the final lines "So just get out while you can/If you need me, I'm your man/But you don't wanna see me mad" suggests that there are consequences to this type of relationship dynamic, and that the performer may not be as passive and compliant as they may seem.

I wanted to make sure there was an album for me to buy....$12.99.

I played that album til the concentric circles vanished of that son of gun.

Preach! Whoever brings this type of hip hop back will be a huge hit! World is starving for wholesome music and entertainment

@YaowBucketHEAD

Is there a market for it?

I'll be 41 in a few days and the majority of young people I meet anymore are, honestly, dumb and ignorant.

They look up to these internet rappers with the terrible ink, stacks of fake money, and their get rich lifestyle. No talent or hardwork anymore.
