You Don't Love Me
The Allman Brothers Band Lyrics

You don't love me pretty baby
You don't love me yes I know
You don't love me pretty baby
You don't love me yes I know

Well if you leave me pretty baby
Don't you know you're gonna hurt me so
Well I'm gonna tell my mother
I'm gonna talk to my father too
Well I'm gonna tell my sweet mother
I'm gonna talk to my father too
Well I'm gonna tell everybody
What those young girls will do to you

Well I'm gonna tell my mother
I'm gonna talk to my father too
Yes I'm gonna tell my sweet mother
I'm gonna have a word with my father too
Well I'm gonna tell everybody
What those young girls will do to you

Goodbye now pretty baby
If I don't see you no more
Lord goodbye now pretty baby
If I never see you no more

Well if you think I'll be your fool Lord
You better be on your merry way

Overall Meaning

The Allman Brothers Band's song "You Don't Love Me" is a classic blues song that tells the story of a man who realizes that his lover doesn't truly love him but instead is only using him for her own pleasure. The song starts with the man acknowledging that his lover doesn't love him despite how much he loves her. He recognizes that he is being used and that she doesn't really care for him. He tries to hold onto the relationship despite knowing that it is not going to work out, but he also acknowledges that if she were to leave him, it would hurt him deeply.

The man decides that he needs to tell his mother and father about the situation. He wants to warn them about what women can do to unsuspecting men, especially young girls who are just looking to have a good time. He knows that his parents will understand what he is going through and will offer him support and guidance. He wants to warn everyone else as well so that they don't fall into the same trap that he did.

In the end, the man realizes that he needs to let go of his lover because she isn't good for him. He knows that if he continues to stay with her, he will only be hurt and used again. He says goodbye to her and warns her that if she thinks he will continue to be her fool, she is mistaken. He is moving on and leaving her behind.
