Salt The Earth
This Is Hell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Outnumbered but not overwhelmed, can't measure up, we're in different realms
Too many times they would chop me down, that was then, this is now
Sticks and stones could never hurt me. destroying vermin, we don't need an army
Engaged attack but they can't defend, completely unprepared for my revenge

Unprepared for my revenge!
Completely unprepared for my revenge!
Combat smoke with fire, end the empire

Face the mirror, accept the fault
Everything was burned and covered in salt
Dead and barren to the core, physically matching what you stood for
No longer satisfied with things that are fleeting
No longer satisfied with taking a beating
Call for retreat, the battle is lost
I've released the beast and embraced chaos

Chaos surrounding me, unleash the beast, it set me free
The time has come to settle the score... let the blood pour!

Chaos surrounding me, unleash the beast, it set me free
The time has come to settle the score... let the blood pour!

This grudge will lacerate the night, sky is bloody, words covered in spite
Combat smoke with fire, end the empire
This grudge will lacerate the night, sky is bloody, words covered in spite
Combat smoke with fire, end the empire

Falling empire burns to ashes

My revenge

It's my revenge

Beg forgiveness for all your sins
It's not the biggest but the coldest man that wins

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Salt The Earth" by This Is Hell speak of revenge and the feeling of being outnumbered but not overwhelmed. The line "outnumbered but not overwhelmed" refers to the singer feeling outnumbered in terms of resources or support but refusing to be overwhelmed by the opposition. They are aware that they can't measure up to their opponent as they are in different realms, perhaps meaning that they don't play by the same rules, but they have come a long way since they were "chopped down" before.

The chorus of the song speaks to the idea of being completely unprepared for someone's revenge. The singer seeks to destroy their enemies, comparing it to "destroying vermin" and using the idea of combat smoke with fire to end what they feel is an unjust empire. They see everything they previously held dear as being transitory and no longer satisfying, taking a call to arms of sorts and unleashing the beast within to seek revenge.

The overall message of the song is that revenge is the ultimate weapon of the underdog, and that they will not be satisfied until they have cleared the earth of their oppressors. The lines "it's not the biggest but the coldest man that wins" put an emphasis on the necessity of being able to remain cool-headed and vengeful in the face of seemingly overwhelming opposition.

I'm fucking loving this new Thrash sound TIH has!

Jimmy Russi

Thrash and hardcore have always complemented each other very well. I mean thrash was half influenced by hardcore punk anyways, some people tend to forget that.
