That's Enough
Thompson Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That's enough out of you
I get tired
Just watching your jaw move
People that talk this much
Have nothing to say
It brings me down
I wanna turn your smile
Into a frown
Being happy is easy if you're dumb
And I've tried to get you out of my life
But you seem to enjoy being used
I've lied cheated been unkind
What else can I do?
And living in your world must be fun
With no idea what's going on
Just thinking you're the bomb!
In this song, Thompson & Richard Thompson express their annoyance towards a person who talks excessively without much substance. The singer seems tired just by watching the person talk and thinks that people who talk too much usually don't have anything meaningful to say. The singer also points out that the excessive talking of this person brings them down and they want to see a frown on their face instead of a smile. The singer thinks that it's easier to be happy if you're dumb and implies that the person they are addressing might be naive.
The singer has tried to get this person out of their life before, but the person seems to enjoy being used. The singer confesses to lying, cheating, and being unkind to this person, but doesn't know what else they can do to get rid of them. The singer looks at the bright side of things and states that living in this person's world must be fun, as they have no idea of what's going on but still think that they are the best.
