Initially a avantgarde thrash metal / prog rock hybrid, Thought Industry's signature sound is showcased on their first two albums; Songs For Insects and Mods Carve The Pig: Assassins, Toads And God's Flesh, however by the time of their third album Outer Space Is Just A Martini Away, the band had started to shed their metal roots and had moved into alternative and art rock by the time they recorded their fourth album, 1997's Black Umbrella. The band are known to have remained active as of 2001 but disbanded shorly after the release of their magnum opus Short Wave On A Cold Day.
Fairy
Thought Industry Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You can't walk today. Purchase and obtuse.
I will melt and flow a mile, but what sees Earth move when you're dead.
One vein flowing violet lead. You're dead. Two veins spilling violet lead.
Head wake with fire.
Sprinkle candycanes.
Stick on everything.
Concealed and naked.
One chance to lose.
The cherry syrup provides a line.
It's funny how you can't move.
II) Only a Sissy Would Live
Blue cat walks through ocean rooms.
A wall of glass to crumble. I said, "A string around and arm invites fluid to fall down.
To soak and tire."
Ice with practical mind. Numbness.
Limbs fooled. Extremities forget to tire. A palsy lasts beyond use.
Lord. I'll sear.
"My computer is an ice cream scooper, and I lovedairy." - Laughing Man
The lyrics of Thought Industry's song "Fairy" are cryptic and open to interpretation, but they evoke a sense of otherworldliness and surrealism. The first verse describes a fantastical location – the Sea of Tranquility on the moon – and a strange, possibly hallucinogenic sensation where "one vein" turns into "two veins spilling violet lead". The lyrics also reference melting, flowing, and floating, as well as the contrast between being "concealed and naked". The second verse is more abstract, with imagery of a "blue cat" in "ocean rooms" and a "string around an arm" that invites "fluid to fall down". The lyrics also make a reference to a "computer" and "ice cream scooper", adding to the overall surreal vibe of the song.
Overall, "Fairy" is a sensory experience that invites the listener to lose themselves in its dreamlike imagery. It's a song that's more about feeling than meaning, and it encourages the listener to let go of rational thought and enter a state of heightened awareness.
