The band released a self-titled effort in 1996 following their formation, where Ament and Robb, who met together on a tour where both their main bands played, collaborated on this side project, which combines rock music with mystical-style Eastern music.
The band reformed in 1999 and toured throughout the year in support of their second album, The Quiet Table.

In the old courts of laughter
Spilling tears on velvet, tears spun from dew
Draped from the lace
Where the elders are weeping
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
When the raven's wings are beating
Where the harlequin sleeps
And the old play is pleading
Under dark, cold raining skies
Beneath the old courts of laughter
Come, come see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
And the wise men speak
While the raven's wings beat
And a cold raining sky
And a harlequin sleeps
Where the old players plead
Under dark, cold raining skies
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
Come, come, see for yourself
The lyrics of Three Fish's song "Myth of Abdou" paint a vivid picture of a melancholic scene, where elders weep and tears spill on velvet from dew. The old courts of laughter have become a place of sorrow, and the lace is draped in mourning. The repetition of the phrase "where the elders are weeping" reinforces the image of a community overcome with grief. The chorus invites the listener to witness this sadness firsthand, urging them to "come, come see for yourself."
The second verse adds to the sense of gloom and mystery, with the raven's wings beating and the harlequin sleeping. The "old play" pleads under the dark, cold rain, emphasizing the futility of past attempts to find joy in this place. Still, the wise men speak, perhaps trying to offer hope or guidance, but their words are overshadowed by the sound of the raven's wings. Ultimately, the scene is one of deep sorrow and somber reflection.
Overall, "Myth of Abdou" seems to be a meditation on the cyclical nature of joy and sorrow. The old courts of laughter have become a place of weeping, but the suggestion remains that laughter may one day return. Until then, the singer implores the listener to witness the current state of things and perhaps find solace in shared sorrow.
