Not Alone
Three Seven Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a tall, a mulatto. boy I know
And he comes to every party - he stands alone
Viewing them the rest, from the corner of his glance
It gets so clear, he's not judging anyone

The way his arms float around his cage, he's caged
Canary sings, silently brings, his voice to rage
The way they stop and stare, the way they turn their heads
It's enough to make him want to run away
But he stays, he stands his ground

And I'm so lame
The way I condescend without ever knowing his name
He keeps it in a box, hangs it from his ear
Looks at everyone without the slightest fear
It's making me so ashamed

Slender body, slip through his glance
I don't give him a single chance
The way he's rocking back and forth
Makes a buzzing in my ear
Constantly reminding me that I never stop to hear
Him say hello, hello

And I am so lame
Like a moth bumping off his godless flame
I cannot condescend or even apprehend, what comes over me
When I see his shameless face

So rage, please rage against me
Beat me down, beat me down, forgive me

For what I've done, I'm so lame, I'm so lame, I'm so lame
So lame, so lame, so lame

Overall Meaning

The song "Not Alone" by Three Seven is a deeply introspective and self-critical portrayal of the singer's interactions with a mulatto boy who attends the same parties as them. The boy stands alone in the corner, observing everyone around him without passing judgment. His apparent detachment from the crowd makes the singer feel ashamed about their own tendencies to condescend towards him without even knowing his name. The boy's slender body and constant rocking motions are like a buzzing reminder for the singer to acknowledge his presence and listen to him.

The lyrics paint a picture of a person who feels trapped and caged in society, unable to express themselves freely or connect with others. The canary's silent voice that brings the boy's rage to the surface is a metaphor for the frustration and anger that he feels but cannot express openly. The singer recognizes the boy's pain and isolation but is unable to break free from their own prejudices and biases. They are drawn to the boy's shameless face, a symbol of the boy's determination to be himself despite society's expectations.

The song is a powerful reflection on the human tendency to judge and marginalize others based on superficial differences like race or appearance. It urges listeners to recognize their own shortcomings and biases and work towards creating a more inclusive and accepting society. The repeated plea to "beat me down" and "forgive me" shows the singer's desire to repent for their behavior and be forgiven for their mistakes.

Trigger warning; unaliving

I know this song is a bit silly but when I was 13 I lived in an abusive household and I seriously considered un aliving myself.

This song genuinely kept me alive. I would sit in the basement on the old family computer and I would ball my eyes out, listening to this. I don’t think I would be here today if it wasn’t for this song.

13 year old me thanks you Sasoin. My birthday is in a couple days I’m gonna be 28. 28-year-old me thanks you.

I’m in a much better place. Things are still hard, but at least I’m still here.

Thank you ❤

Lyrics

It's just like him
To wander off in the evergreen park
Slowly searching for any sign
Of the ones he used to love.

He says he's got nothing left to live for
(He says he's got nothing left...)
And this time I think you'll know.

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

She's just like him
Spoiled rotten
Confused by the lies she's been fed
And she's searching for no one.
(But herself)
Her eyes turn to green and she seems to be happy
That she is here
And this time I think you'll know...

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out

We're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell.
(So tell me)

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
(Make it out)
You will live to tell
(Live to tell)
You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
(And I know)
You can make it out
You will live to tell.

You are not alone.
You're not, you're not alone

This song saved me after I came back from Fallujah, Iraq. I wanted to quiet the voices but this song lifted mine. Still listening in 2024. Thank you, Saosin. I’m writing this because of you.

I feel like I didn't appreciate these years enough. I'm nearly 30 and missing these times 😩

@maxsun13

I just turned 30 too. One day you'll look back on today. Make the most out of your regrets and make your 30th year awesome. You didn't waste anything by the way you had to go through exactly what you did to get here today as the wiser better you. Rejoice! We still have the present, the past is set in stone and can't be helped.
