Neon lights
Timecop1983 & Josh Dally Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm in the hotel all alone
And I don't know what to say
I've been tied so tight
Living night by night

So I head to the neon lights
Yeah I head to the neon lights
I watched the sun go down
Here in London town
I wonder where you are
You're so close but so far

So head to the neon lights
And I don't know why
Yeah I head to the neon lights
I can't justify
So come on

Old friend of mine it's been a while
You don't know me and I don't know you
Let's light this up and watch it burn

So head to the neon lights
And I don't know why
Yeah I head to the neon lights
I can't justify

So head to the neon lights
And I don't know why

Yeah I head to the neon lights
I can't justify

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Neon Lights" describe a feeling of loneliness and uncertainty about one's current situation. The singer is in a hotel room alone, and despite feeling lost and tied down, they are drawn to the bright and colorful neon lights of the city. As they watch the sun go down in London town, they can't help but wonder where someone they are close to may be, feeling both near and far. The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "I head to the neon lights" as a way of expressing the singer's need for escape and the comfort they find in the bustling energy of the city.

The song's second verse introduces the idea of reconnecting with an "old friend," but the situation is ambiguous and seems to suggest that the singer is not entirely sure who they are even talking to. Despite this uncertainty, they invite this person to "light this up and watch it burn," possibly as a way of seeking companionship and excitement in the face of their current loneliness.

Overall, "Neon Lights" is a poignant and emotional exploration of the human desire for connection and escape, set against the backdrop of a vibrant and dynamic urban environment.

The 80's. The renaissance decade. Great decade!

I got introduced to retrowave when i started seeing this girl a couple years ago. We quickly became very fond of each other. I felt like the music was encouraging my feelings to come out with a strong force. We were beautiful and it was intense like an 80’s love scene but alas it was not meant to be. As quickly as it started it ended and i first heard this song when i found myself driving alone at night with the most severe aching heart i ever had. The song helped some. 2 years later ive moved on but i still think about her when i hear this song. The whole thing feels like a dream.

I grew up in the 80s and listening to retrowave makes me yearn to go back to that era so strongly that my heart actually physically hurts.

It's a gift and a curse, I think one that not many share, specially for the 80's. Hearing a song, smelling a smell that teleports you back to a time a neon and sythn's.. nostalgia so strong, it pulls at you from within, your eyes fill with tears, then when you think you're at the height of the moment, you remember, it's all done and never will come back, the 80's will forever be in the 80's, these moments of nostalgia are all that remains, hold on to that feeling, feel it as much as you can, cry if you want too

@Exiria

Time is a construct. If you want to be back there, then you are.
