There’s another song in you and me
Light like a summer breeze
With a fun and tender melody
I will never be the one to break the mold
Never turn iron ore to gold
Never be the one to change the world around
Never drop and never miss a beat
Always there for you to turn me up and down
And when the music fades away
You need someone who can sing
You need someone who can play
I still believe
There’s another dance in you and me
Slow, cheek to cheek
Lift us up as far as no eye can see
I will never be the one to break the mold
Never turn iron ore to gold
Never be the one to change the world around
But I’ll always keep the time and stay in key
Never drop and never miss a beat
Always there for you to turn me up and down
And when the music fades away
You need someone who can sing
You need someone who can sway
The lyrics of Private Party, a song by Tina Dickow, are an ode to the power of music and its ability to bring people together. The singer begins by expressing their belief that there is still more music to be made between them, with a light and tender melody like a summer breeze. They go on to acknowledge their limitations as a musician, never able to break the mold or change the world, but committed to keeping the rhythm and always being there to support their musical partner. It's a humble and heartwarming show of devotion to the craft of music and to the person they are making it with.
The chorus echoes the sentiment of the opening lines, with the singer proclaiming their belief in another dance between them, a slow and intimate moment that lifts them up beyond the physical world. The final lines of the chorus are a repetition of the idea that in a world where music has faded away and left us feeling lost, we need someone who can sing and sway to the rhythm with us. The song is a reminder that music has the power to heal, to connect us with others, and to bring joy to our lives.
