Everyone Needs a Home
Tom Williams Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Man you're an animal
Talkin bout your neighbourhood
And how you used to have it so good
But theres nothing here for us anymore
And everyone
Everyone
A home
Back when you were face down
Dribbling into the ground
Wrapped in your national flag
Nothin's gonna change while you're around
But theres nothing here for us anymore
And everyone
Everyone
Needs
A home
And everyone
Everyone
Needs
a home
The lyrics of Tom Williams's song Everyone Needs A Home seem to be about the loss of a sense of belonging and displacement. The first stanza evokes the image of a person standing up on his hind legs like an animal, talking about his neighborhood and how things used to be better in the past. The second stanza is about a person who is face down, wrapped in a national flag, seemingly defeated and helpless. The chorus repeats the phrase "Everyone needs a home" emphasizing that despite outward appearances of strength or national pride, ultimately we all have a need for a place we can truly call home.
The theme of the song is universal and touches on the feelings of displacement faced by many people today. Whether it's due to political upheaval, economic uncertainty or forced migration, the lyrics speak to the human condition of searching for a place of belonging, safety and comfort. The idea of the national flag in the second stanza could be interpreted as a commentary on the idea of nationalism as a source of belonging, which ultimately fails to provide the sense of home that we all need.
In conclusion, Tom Williams's song Everyone Needs A Home is a poignant reminder of the universal human need for a place to call home. It calls attention to the challenges and struggles faced by many people today who seek safety, security and a sense of belonging in a world that is ever-changing and unpredictable.
