This Time The Dream's On Me
Tony Perkins Lyrics

We'll be close together, wait and see
Oh, by the way,
This time the dreams on me
You'll take my hand
And youll look at me adoringly
But as things stand,
This time the dream's on me
It would be fun
To be certain that I'm the one
To know that I
At least supply
The shoulder you lean upon
To see you through
Till youre everything you want to be
It can't be true
But this time the dream's on me...!
In Tony Perkins’s song “This Time the Dream’s On Me,” the singer talks about hope, love, and anticipation. He sings about being with someone he loves that he's not yet together with, but will eventually be close together with someday. He mentions that they will take each other’s hand and look at each other adoringly. Then, he says “but as things stand, this time the dream's on me.” Here, he implies that the dream of being together is his to bear since it is the only way he knows how to hold onto hope. He further emphasizes his willingness to see the person he loves progress in life by saying, “to see you through till you’re everything you want to be.”
The song is a beautiful representation of someone in love and ready to take on whatever comes their way to experience the sweetness of being with the person they love. The lyrics imply that although the singer knows the things will not come easy, he is willing to do whatever he can to make it work. Overall, the song is filled with romantic undertones and an unwavering determination to reunite and fall in love.

I've loved this song since I heard it in "Blues in the Night", sung by Priscilla Lane. It's a wonderful, lovely song. Till just a few minutes ago, I had no idea that Anthony Perkins ever recorded! I always loved his duet with Jane Fonda in "Tall Story" but just never heard of his music in my 60+ years! What a velvety, dreamy voice with a gerat style.

Never heard Perkins sing, or that he sang at all. He's quite good.
