Fischer announced his departure from Celtic Frost in May 2008 and shortly afterwards revealed his new project would be entitled Triptykon. The name of the band is the Greek word for "triptych", and is aimed at stating that Triptykon is founding member Thomas Gabriel Fischer's third project after Hellhammer and Celtic Frost. The band logo is inspired by a writing pattern used during the time of the Weimar Republic.
On August 5, 2009, Triptykon issued a press release indicating the recording of their debut album, Eparistera Daimones, would commence in the middle of August and continue through November, with a release in the spring of 2010.[4][5]
On December 21, 2009, Triptykon issued a new press release to reveal Prowling Death Records Ltd. entered into a licensing agreement with Century Media Records to release Eparistera Daimones on March 22, 2010.[6]
A follow-up EP, entitled Shatter, was released on October 25, 2010.[7] A music video for the song Shatter has also been released.
It was announced on October 22, 2013 that the new album will be titled Melana Chasmata.[8]
On February 7, 2014, Melana Chasmata's release date was revealed as being on April 14, 2014. The new album was received by music critics with a widely excellent critical response.
In early August 2017, Triptykon announced that drummer Norman Lonhard would be exiting the band, and that auditions for a replacement would soon be underway. Lonhard's final performance with the band was at the Party.San Open Air festival in Schlotheim, Germany on August 12th.
Breathing
Triptykon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Leaves me parched for air
Every hand I touch
Causes skin to tear
Every flame approached
Blinds my eyes
Every word I write
Leaves me drained
Still the blood
That fills my veins
Obliterate my hatred
This flesh enwrapped in pain
Every kiss of yours
Drenches my tongue with poison
Every emotion I feel
Tears a cleft into my heart
Every light in the dark
Fades as I advance
Every day I exist
I don't understand
Earth to flesh, and flesh to earth
Engulfed below this ruptured birth
This longing mind that you denied
A taste of life
This body died
Earth to flesh, and flesh to earth
Engulfed below this ruptured birth
My words subside, this life is spent
Blind I remain, all shall end
The lyrics of "Breathing" seem to explore the idea of the physicality of existence being intertwined with the emotional and psychological. The repetition of "Every" highlights a sense of exhaustion and weariness with the world around the singer. The breaths that should invigorate him instead leave him feeling parched, the hands he reaches out to touch causing him harm. Fire blinds him, and he feels drained by the very act of writing. The mention of a hate he wishes to obliterate, and the idea of his flesh being "enwrapped in pain" suggests an overall sense of suffering that he longs to be free of.
The physicality of love is also explored in the lyrics, but here emotions are depicted as being just as harmful as fire and skin-tearing touches. The poison of a kiss is almost expected at this point in the song, and the cleft torn into his heart by every emotion he feels seems to echo the pain he has described before. Finally, the idea of flesh-to-earth, of an existential dissatisfaction with the world around him and the life he lives is touched on in the final lines of the song. Everything is fleeting, and his words will subside, but he remains blind to the answers he seeks.

I know you won't see this, but thank you so much for helping me deal with depression, Triptykon. Your music is honestly one of the only things that help.

It's like dealing pain with bigger pain. You come back stronger and then your pain barrier goes further and further. I mean, i've experience it like that.

Yeah, they are truly something special. Such beautifully dark music. Very cathartic. I hope we get more sometime soon.

Bought the album today, sure was worth it. I'd highly recommend it anyone that wants a bit of everything, Death, Doom, Black, Gothic, it has it all. A bit more varied than the predecessor though. I'd say its up there with some of heaviest stuff being produced today, along side Grave and Asphyx.

This is exactly why the works of Tom G. Warrior (and associates surely) leave a legacy unlike any other in my view. He's been influencing the whole spectrum of extreme metal since the beginning, while staying true to a very strong and unique vision. A master of the dark art.

I agree - I prefer it to both Monotheist and Eparistera. Loads more variation.

This album is definitely something special. Dark, heavy as fuck, very atmospheric and unique

Absolutely! Killer stuff, I hope we get more sometime soon! No other bands scratched the same itch for this type of music. Tom (and the rest of Triptykon for that matter, but Tom plays a huge part in that) writes some of the absolute most unique music. The old Celtic Frost stuff was easier to imitate (though most did not come close to the quality of riffs/songwriting) but this stuff is much harder to copy.

Don't really listen much to this kind of stuff as it tend to get repetitive around a few formulas. To me this stands out because of the relatively clear vocals, I just find it much more powerful when you can actually hear the words and the message they are trying to carry across to the the listener.

Utterly fantastic. Tom is on a roll now, and there is no way he will release anything below-standard. I think, judging by this and the other new track, that the new album may even be his best. It's heavy, brutal, yet still manages to contain surprises and nuances, with twists and turns round every corner. This song is like an a-to-z of killer riffs. Phenomenal...this is the most excited I've been for a new release in as long as I can remember. It's an EVENT.
