Call Us Peculiar

Hi! I know that your comment was written months ago and I'm not sure where you are with your faith journey at this point. I also know that the comment was originally directed to the creator of the video but I thought that you had some legitimate questions in here and thought that I might offer some insight?

As for Noah's wife and the wives of his 3 sons - that is a very interesting observation but I do think that the omission of their identities has purpose. For one, we can see that the roles of women all throughout the Bible is extremely significant, therefore, leaving out the names of Noah's wife and daughters in law simply cannot be because women are less significant in the scriptures.

We have powerful examples of women throughout the Bible: Mary, Elizabeth, Esther, Ruth, Naomi, Abigail, Deborah, Lydia, Rahab, Mary Magdalene, the woman at the well, the woman with the issue of blood etc.

Some of these women had really sinful backgrounds but Jesus genetically descended from some of them. He makes this known and their stories of redemption are some of the most important in the Bible. The female lineage of Jesus is actually stained with sin and mistakes but Jesus claims these imperfect women and does not hide them from us in Scripture.

So going back to Noah.. Genesis is extremely peculiar and mysterious when it comes to the reasons for the flood. I won't really get into it here but if you do some studies you'll see that the flood had to happen not just to deal with the issue of the sin-fest going down on the Earth but it was connected to the giants/nephilim on the earth and Noah was undefiled by these demonic beings, so he was preserved through the flood to repopulate earth.

But after the flood giants appeared on the Earth again. The theory behind this is that giants were able to appear on the Earth again because the DNA of the women on the ark contained their genetics. This would've been a very bad thing and perhaps knowing the names of the women would've also been a bad thing. So that's more of the Christian Fringe answer which requires a lot of in-depth study about Genesis 6:4.

But the other reason to be considered is also be the fact that the purpose of telling Noah's story is so that we can understand the lineage of the different ethnicities and people of the world, and so that we could adequately trace Jesus's heritage. The fact of the matter is that God has chosen males to carry these biblical bloodlines and so it would have been very important to track Noah's family to keep accurate records of the heritage of the Hebrew people and eventually of Jesus.

Yes it does seem that scripture lumps women in as possessions of men, but if we were to view this language through God's eyes and God's heart rather than our Western paradigm, maybe we would start to view that language not as a proclamation of ownership, but as loving protection and covering. I believe that God has ordained the principle of a woman being covered buy a man out of love for her and protection of her extremely powerful role in the home.

So when we are grouped with servants and other possessions we are in a highly valued group and it is the responsibility of the men in our lives to create safety and provision.

When we begin to follow Christ we become his possession. He gives us a new name and we too are subservient to him. Yet scripture also says that we are spiritually co-heirs with Jesus Christ and can boldly approach the throne of God just as Jesus can. (See Ephesians) So the parallels between woman's relationship with man, and the Christian's relationship with Christ have a lot less to do with being the lesser part of the partnership and more to do with the protected and priceless part of the partnership. In scripture we have examples of women who were entrepreneurs, warriors, judges, and queens who walked in freedom, but also knew their role in their home. As the bride of Christ we also walk in freedom and authority, but we are still subservient to Jesus Christ.

I hope this is making sense. There are just so many patterns and foreshadowings that display how our role on Earth as women marries with the church's relationship with Christ. It's impossible to cover it all in one comment but I just wanted to share that the Bible is extremely empowering to women.

As someone commented earlier, women have been given a similar ministry to that of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a help and a servant, but this is not a lowly role. Jesus came as a servant and and charged his disciples to understand that the greatest in his kingdom would be the one who serves. Not to say that we have to lose our Identity or our voice. We were just given a different ministry is all. And if we and if we don't steward that ministry well, then this beautiful blueprint that God has given us could fall apart.

Side note you might have heard this before but when Jesus rose from the dead he first revealed himself to women and gave orders for the women to go back and testify to the disciples about what they had seen, and to give further instructions to the disciples. But 2 thousand years ago the testimony of women was worthless. Jesus trusted the gospel and the good news of his resurrection to people that had no societal stature. But he saw women as worthy enough to carry the good news and to be his messengers to his doubtful and terrified disciples after his resurrection.

I think that it's important not to look for our personal values to be reflected in the Bible because God's thoughts are not our thoughts and his ways are not our ways. We may miss the beauty of what he's really trying to articulate to us if we get caught up on principles that we think are important rather than trusting him and taking him at his word. I hope that doesn't sound condescending because I certainly respect your question and where you are on your journey in faith.

I don't know if that confuses you or helps LOL but if you ever see this comment I pray that in it you can find some answers or at least a puzzle piece to the bigger picture. Bless you!

Looks like I'm the only dude that watched this but I've always wanted to see a girls perspective on this. So happy to know there's women out there that haven't been touched by this pervasive feminist movement, even though women are constantly pressured by the culture and other women to get on board with it. A cool note I'd add to the verse that describes women as helpers, the only other time that Hebrew word is used is in reference to the Holy Spirit! And we don't view the Holy Spirit as "nice, but unnecessary and lesser". He does for us what we can't do for ourselves. Such a cool word to be applied to women.

Dude you’re not alone, I love to watch Christian woman’s perspective and loving it to the fullest… bless you brother.

I don't like the "haven't been touched" part of what you said. It implies some sort of "purity" or superiority. Life is a journey and its different for everyone. That comment just turns people away who have lived a life that might not live up to your "godly" standards.

Hearts in the Home

I often feel that feminists are really just reacting to feeling unappreciated and undervalued in their traditional roles. After all, without a renewed heart and mind, we as humans do tend to give preference and greater honour to people who earn big incomes, are well educated or have a job that proves how intelligent they are. It's hard to prove to the world that you are intelligent and capable as a stay-at-home mum. And it's hard to value male leadership when (again, looking at humans without a renewed heart and mind) we see power being misused and abused. I really don't judge feminists for believing that they need to fight to be treated well and take on impressive careers to prove their value and worth. Thankfully though, in Christ, men lead in humility and with a heart to serve. In Christ, wealth and possessions, worldly wisdom and understanding are of no consequence. So I guess that biblical feminism only makes sense to the extent that we (as a community) look at the world through God's lens.

Talking about Feminism is not easy, and I truly respect the way you delivered this topic based on your own ideals. I also believe that God created man and women equal under his eyes, to balance one another. Now not everyone who has learned about God understands this or sees it as so, and Christianity is so complex I have never met two christians that interpret the Bible exactly the same. I myself Adore the Lord because he has done so much for me and ever since I have been walking his path, He has helped me pull myself out of dark places. I consider myself a Christian woman and also a feminist, I consider myself a feminist because there are women around the world still being mistreated, abused, and degraded because of their gender, because people who do not know God have concluded that they are not equal and their qualities ( which I agree with you are mostly nurturing) are abused. Now I don't think there is a Problem With Feminism, because similarly to Christianity it is complex topic to talk about. I think there is a problem when people abuse and misuse this label, there are people who have claimed to be "Christians" that have used this label to abuse others, and there are Feminist that use this as a label to create havoc and send out misleading messages. Feminist women for me are women who are reminding others that we are created equal under Gods eyes, and help our sisters who have been abused by men who clearly are not following the roles God has given them. I absolutely adore watching the way you express your love for Christ and the way you deliver your message, and again I super respect the way you have delivered your opinions! Talking about topics like this is DIFFICULT, but I am so grateful you did because not talking about them will do no good. - Thank you for reading my thoughts in this long paragraph and thank you again for sharing <3
