The group's original line up (1986-1989) was

* Gretchen Phillips - guitar, bass, mandolin and vocals
* Kathy Korniloff - guitar, bass, violin, percussion, vocals
* Laurie Freelove, guitar, bass, percussion & vocals.

Members each wrote songs and took turns on different instruments. Freelove left following completion of the band's first album in 1989. She was replaced by Meg Hentges on guitar and Barbara Cole on bass. Drummer Pam Barger was added to the band just prior to Freelove's departure.

Two Nice Girls won a GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Award in 1991. The group broke up in 1992.

I lived in Austin from August 1985 to August 1991. Saw them live several times including an amazing night at Liberty Lunch with Poi Dog Pondering. The two bands combined to perform "Reunited". I had the Two Nice Girls EP on cassette but that finally died. Miss them and miss what Austin was like then.

I met some people when I lived in SF who were from Austin and they introduced me to this great trio. Poi Dog Pondering and The Wagoneers were also big in Austin then. Still have a t-shirt and play their music. Love Two Nice Girls!

You have to remember, no one had done a Lou Reed cover of this song. They were ahead of their time and there weren't very many girl bands. Have mercy, oh critical ones, these girls had balls before women were even touring all over the place. They made history! They were fantastic!

Saw them several times back in the day, just wonderful performances. They would switch instruments between nearly every song. In Dallas a band called 'Stick People' opened for them once. The lead singer was Malford Milligan, and his greatness was already on display back then.
Loved all of them, but Gretchen in particular was (and still is, AFAIK) a force of Nature.

This is actually two songs mashed together and this performance isn’t as good as the album version. Part of it is the sound, it lacks the fullness. Listen to the record version and you might feel differently. It’s Sweet Jane mixed with Joan Armantrading’s Love and Affection. It’s brilliant.
